Knights of Columbus Villa Marie Council # 6342

Knights of Columbus Villa Marie Council # 6342 Knights of Columbus Villa Marie Council # 6342. Catholic Gentlemen Serving God, Church and Community. In service to one. In service to all. Father Michael J.

Welcome to the Villa Maria Council # 6342 of the Knights of Columbus. McGivney and a handful of Catholic laymen founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882, in the basement of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Haven, Connecticut. The aim of the founder was to set up a parish-based lay organization that offered insurance benefits to the widows and children of members. In an era when parish and fraterna

l societies were popular, Father McGivney felt there should be some way to strengthen the religious faith of his flock and provide financial support for families overwhelmed by illness or the death of the breadwinner. Today the Knights of Columbus have grown from that one local unit, or council, to over 12,000 councils in the United States (including Puerto Rico and Guam), Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, and Saipan. In January 2006, the Knights of Columbus expanded to Poland. Membership is over 1.7 million members, plus their families - approximately 5.6 million people total - many of whom are actively involved in volunteer service programs for the Catholic Church, their communities, their families, young people and one another. The Knights of Columbus, the world's largest organization of Catholic men and their families, has been called "the strong right arm of the Church," and has been cited by popes, presidents and other world leaders for support of the Church, for programs of evangelization and Catholic education, for civic involvement and aid to those in need. One of the primary missions of the Knights of Columbus is to support local charities. The Knights are a familiar sight around town during the annual Mentally Challenged Citizens drive, which raises funds for charities that support the re****ed and handicapped. We also support other fund raising drives to aid local parishes and charities. The Knights of Columbus promotes family values by providing numerous activities throughout the year that the entire family can participate in. Additionally, the organization provides an opportunity to ensure that a knight's family is provided for in the event of his death. Here is short list of reasons you may want to join the Knights of Columbus:
· An opportunity to become part of the world's largest Catholic fraternal organization;
· Make a personal contribution to the Church and community through charity and fraternity;
· A sense of "belonging" in an organization that shares your religious beliefs and brings to together like-minded men joined in a common cause;
· Concerns for your family and retirement years can be addressed by the Orders optional, low-cost life insurance; and
· Knowing that the Knights of Columbus is second to none in support of our Holy Father, our Bishops and Priests, and our fellow man.

The Christmas Bazaars for both SEAS and OLPH are coming up soon. SEAS will be held on Friday and Saturday November 15 & 16 from 11am to 7 pm. OLPH will be on Saturday November 16 from 9am to 5pm. Our council sets up a table at both bazaars to sell our Keep Christ In Christmas religious items. The proceeds from these sales go to support our scholarship program. Since both bazaars are being held at the same time, I am looking for some help in manning the tables. If anyone is available to help out, even if its only for a few hours, please let me know so that I can make up some type of schedule so that both tables will be covered for both days. I will be at OLPH on Saturday. I am working until 2pm on Friday (unless I can get someone to switch with me) and then I will go to SEAS to man that table. Thanks

Our semi-annual blood drive is scheduled for this Wednesday October 23rd at the parish hall at SEAS. This was scheduled before we knew that the church would be closed for renovations and the Red Cross is unable to reschedule this drive. So, Charlie Messina could use some help around 11:00 on Wednesday to take down a portion of the chairs in the hall to give room for the blood drive, then again at the end, around 6 pm, to set the chairs up again so the hall is ready for mass on Thursday. If anyone could help at those times, it would be greatly appreciated.

Chicken BBQ scheduled for next Sunday July 22nd at SEAS has been cancelled for now. They are looking to reschedule in August, if possible, when the air is fixed in the church hall.

Our Lady of Fátima

Our Lady of Fátima is a Catholic title of Mary, mother of Jesus, based on the Marian apparitions reported in 1917 by three shepherd children at the Cova da Iria in Fátima, Portugal. The three children were Lúcia dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto.

Saturday we will be holding our 1st Corn Hole Tournament. This is our first opportunity to do something different to raise money. We can use your help to make this successful. The church hall needs to be emptied out so they can set up Saturday morning. I’ll be there around 6:00 tomorrow night to empty out the hall. The tournament runs from 11:00 to 3:30 on Saturday (the set-up team will be there around 10:00). I’m not sure exactly where our help will be needed but I’ll bet there will be something for everyone to do. So, if you are available tomorrow evening and especially Saturday, let’s enjoy our new adventure and make it a success.
