For we have seen His star in the East, and have come to worship Him. Matthew 2:2

Angels swept through the sky quietly, wisping their wings. The child is born and God’s great plan of salvation came to be. Look up and raise your head for your redemption draws near. The plan has been completed for each of us. What a wonderful gift God gave to us! Bask in the glow of the greatest gift the world has ever known!

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for his sheep. John 10:11

Jesus is born and the angels tell the shepherds by singing to them out in the fields. What was the big deal about shepherds? They would certainly be able to share the word as they traveled in and out of the villages. They also understood the importance of a lamb without blemish which would be set aside for the sacrifice needed. The lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world with his own blood has been born!

Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14

I shared in my sermon that the baby Jesus was placed in the nativity scene this week but got covered with snow! The children in our daycare were very concerned about Him. We dug him out, and put his blanket back on him—an idea from the 3 year olds as well.

They, of course, know that this baby Jesus is just a figure but their concern reminds us that Jesus matters, that He is the reason for this whole Christmas season whether it is chaotic or peaceful. Jesus is the One who can turn things around and turn us around so that we could be more like Him. The manger is the reminder that the baby lying there was given as a gift for us so that we might love better, live better, and be forever in God’s arms. It’s such a powerful gift that indeed causes us to go to our knees in gratitude.

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen. Luke 2:19-20

The shepherds shouted it aloud and Mary kept it close to her heart. Both responses were faithful. Some moments call for celebration, others for reflection. Faith grows in both the singing and the silence. Whatever season you’re in, hold this story of God’s goodness in a way that keeps it alive. Before the day ends, name one thing God has done that you want to treasure, and one you’re ready to tell someone else about.

When the angels had left them… the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened.’ So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. Luke 2:15-17

The shepherds didn’t wait for someone else to confirm the news, they ran to their Savior! Faith isn’t just hearing about what God has done; it’s stepping out to experience for ourselves. Their story reminds us that belief grows when we move toward what God is doing, not when we step back and overthink it. Take one small step toward something that’s stirring your heart: serve, reach out, show up. Go see what God might be doing.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them… 'I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.’ Luke 2:8-12

The first people to hear the Christmas story weren’t influencers or insiders, they were night-shift shepherds. God chooses ordinary places and ordinary people to carry extraordinary hope. It’s how God still works today, meeting us right where we are, in work clothes and everyday life. Look for God’s presence in something simple today - a conversation, a routine, or a quiet moment, and treat it like holy ground.

We know that families struggle at this time of year when they are grieving, or anxious about the future, dealing with struggles, and life changes. Sometimes we need a reminder that we are not alone in that. Enjoy the music and the message of our Blue Christmas Service.
