Big Country Autoharp & Dulcimer Club

Big Country Autoharp & Dulcimer Club BCAD is an informal group of folks who get together to play various acoustic instruments. Email us to see where/when we'll be jamming!

The Big Country Autoharp and Dulcimer Club is an informal group of acoustic musicians who get together to have fun and play old time music. We have an "official" meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, to review the gig schedule, learn some new songs, play a little, and work on the music for upcoming events. Every Tuesday at 7pm, we join friends and other acoustic instruments at the Wisteria Pla

ce meeting room (on S. Willis) for a casual jam session. As Carlene says: There are no dues, few rules, and everyone's welcome!

The Merkel Area Historical Museum is really a undiscovered gem in the Big Country. It hosts lots of exhibits and artifacts that highlight the rich history of the area. There are many pioneer and agricultural items, and interesting cultural exhibits showcasing the amazing musicians we have in the area. Our own famous fiddler Bill is featured in a few photos there!

In July, we got dressed up and played old-time and patriotic songs for the museum's First Responder Recognition Supper. The pancakes and the company were both great! We're always happy to spend time out there.

Back in April we said farewell to our dear friends Ruth Anna and Marcus, who moved from Abilene to East Tennessee to be closer to family. Before they packed up, we had a goodbye-bye-jam-and-cookout at Louise's house. If you've never done that - it's absolutely the best way to say "so long" to musical friends. We miss your sweet voice and enthusiasm, but we know TN will be blessed.

Happy Trails!

Back in September 2020, we were honored to be invited to play for the Open House at Christian Women's Job Corp last fall. Such a great ministry helping to nurture and uplift women in the Big Country.

And yes, that's Richard without his beard.... It was an odd year indeed.

Thanks to Sharon Maurer for the pics!

Well, it's been awhile since we've been seen!

But we're finally venturing out in public now that things are opening up a bit. Some of our usual jam-spots are still closed, but we're finding places to meet and play. In the past 18 months, we've gained a few new "regulars" while other folks have moved away to (literally) greener pastures. I'll be posting a few pics soon of what we've been up to for the past couple of months.

03/23/2020

Unfortunately, our regular jams at Wisteria, Willow Springs, and Coronado have been suspended until further notice.
We miss y'all - hope to be seeing you all again soon.
Say safe!

How time flies! Seems like yesterday, but it's been 10 years since our little group first started meeting regularly. Join us this month as we celebrate our anniversary with a gig at the Merkel Area Historical Museum. We'll play for their Jan 18th chili supper fundraiser. If you've never been, the Merkel Museum is one of West Texas' best kept secrets - an interesting place with great exhibits of local history.
