Rwanda Children

Rwanda Children We provide shelter, food, medical care, education, and hope to at-risk children in the name of Jesus.

We trust in the power of our God who made all people and we believe that Jesus, God in the flesh, set us an example of hope, mercy, and love for our neighbor. As a result, Rwanda Children seeks to embody and live out the example of love through our presence and through the sharing of our resources with vulnerable and at-risk children in the country of Rwanda. Beginning in 2013, we built our first

children's home in the village of Ntarama, Rwanda - home to our founder, Serge Gasore. This home currently provides for seven children from Ntarama and surrounding communities who have been identified as at-risk or vulnerable by their families or other community members. We are also caring for 14 additional children who became the first residents in two of the 5 new children's homes comprising our Hunter Hanner Community of Hope. Our goal is to ensure all of these children can grow, learn and live free from abuse, extreme poverty or neglect. Rwanda Children is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Do something great today, and give a goat! The gift of a goat can make a huge difference in the world of a Rwandan family or a widow! Goats are hardy animals, flourishing in hot climates while producing valuable manure to fertilize crops and vegetable gardens.

By making a $45 donation, you will provide someone in great need in our community with a goat—it's like giving them a small business! You can also donate $65 to provide a goat and receive one of our fantastic-looking "Donate A Goat" t-shirts. Visit our website's Shop to donate goats. rwandachildren.org/shop

Like a choreographed dance, our agriculture team works in synchronized precision! As some create holes in the soil, other team members step in to drop in the seeds and cover them with dirt. This process will continue until the entire field has been planted.

Agricultural projects are a vital part of our mission. The food we grow helps feed our children and community, while those who desperately need income to support their families are employed on our agricultural teams. Generous partners like you are helping make this possible. Thank you!

We're not sure if there is such a person as a "cow whisperer," but we definitely think Bosco would qualify as one. He is responsible for the care and feeding of our cows and calves. Since our cattle are primarily grass-fed, Bosco's daily routine includes cutting the feed grasses we grow on campus and delivering the grass to our cows. As you can see in this picture, Bosco has loaded the cargo bed of our BUV with the grasses our cows are about to dine on.

Our students like to read, which makes us happy! Helping children to enjoy reading is one of the most essential things our library team, teachers, and staff strive toward. Students are learning reading skills in the classroom, but can start associating reading with work, not pleasure. As a result, they can lose their desire to read. And that desire, stoked by curiosity and interest, is the cornerstone of successfully learning to use reading skills. That's why our team dedicates so much time and effort to equipping our children to enjoy reading. We're working to grow lifelong readers!

Rwanda's Ministry of Education requires this rugged, low-power laptop in the country's primary schools. The laptop's hardware and software are designed for collaborative and self-empowered learning. With this tool, our children are more engaged in their education as they learn, share, and collaborate. Our computer learning center is currently equipped with several children's laptops. We are thankful for our partners, whose generosity has allowed us to provide our students with these excellent educational resources!

This child receives medical care because they have health insurance. This insurance covers essential medical treatment, medicines, immunizations, and vitamins for an entire year as part of their enrollment. Many children will receive treatment for diseases, such as malaria, which, if left untreated, could be life-threatening.

It costs only $5 per year to provide a Rwandan child with this potentially life-saving health insurance. However, many families in our community cannot afford it despite its low cost. We are coordinating with community leaders, church leaders, and other partners to enroll the children who need our help obtaining this insurance.

To help at-risk children receive health insurance, please visit the Shop section of our website: rwandachildren.org/shop

These three mothers of RCCS students were on campus last week, volunteering their time in shelling peanuts we recently harvested from our fields. Time passes quickly on a task like this when you enjoy the people you work with, and these moms clearly enjoy each other's company. We are grateful for our children's parents' ownership of our mission and ministry and their willingness to dedicate their time to projects that benefit our children and community.

We thank God for the recent harvest of beans, maize (corn), and peanuts we have reaped from our fields! This abundant harvest will help feed our children, and our agricultural workers will receive wages that allow them to provide for their families. The ongoing support of our generous partners makes these agricultural initiatives possible. Thank you!

Good Wednesday morning! Every day before they head to their classrooms, our children and teachers gather briefly on our basketball/volleyball court for a morning assembly. Our RCCS headmistress, Nadine Izerwe, will share some encouraging words with the group, urging everyone to have a great day and to do their best. The assembly concludes with a prayer. The students and teachers begin singing as they file toward their respective classrooms. Everyone agrees that morning assembly is a great and positive way to start the day!

We asked these Early Childhood Development students to show us how to do karate. Their moves were too precious not to share, and the sweet smiles accompanying the children’s karate exhibition melted our hearts.
