Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. This season of the Church year invites Christians to renew their faith through penitence and devotion. While it is occasionally framed as a morbid observance, Ash Wednesday actually is one of the most hopeful days in the liturgical calendar, as it reminds us that God has promised to be faithful to us no matter what.
