Abernathy United Church

Abernathy United Church Abernathy United desires to bring glory to God by boldly sharing how belief in Jesus saves us from o Abernathy United is not your average church.

We are one of less than six percent of churches in the United States that is considered to be multicultural. We are a diverse family of believers who intentionally make disciples of our Lord, Jesus Christ through His power and grace and for His glory. Abernathy United features a casual, welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Plus, we have a special place for kids — Kids United! We are the product of a

work of God and of God alone. He UNITED several bodies together to create the church as a non-denomination family of believers who participate together in Gospel-centered worship. Our Priorities
Word Saturated: The Bible is God’s very Word and is true and eternal. All scripture is breathed out by God and applicable to issues of life and faith. We want God’s Word to guide how we think and everything we do. We desire to be known as people of the Word. Gospel Centered: The gospel is the good news about Jesus Christ who came “to seek and save the lost” and is the power of God for salvation to all who believe. We focus on Jesus, who He is and what He has done. The gospel is for everyone, every day, and in every moment. It saves and sustains. Spirit Led: The Holy Spirit (God the Spirit) is one of the three persons of the Godhead, in unity with the Father and the Son, and is the active presence of God in the world. Every believer in Jesus Christ has received the indwelling gift of the Holy Spirit. We desire to be led and directed by the Spirit who focuses our attention on the grace and glory of God revealed in Jesus Christ and who produces in us the fruit of the Spirit. Intentional Disciples: A disciple is a follower of Jesus Christ who learns from Him to live like Him, adhering to His teachings and example. We are disciple-making disciples. We desire to be people actively engaged in the ongoing process of growing in Christ while in community with other believers. We are continually asking ourselves, “who is discipling me,” and “who am I discipling?”

What We Believe

God:
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. There is one God in three persons. Genesis 1:1, 26, 27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14

Jesus Christ:
Jesus is the son of God who lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate his power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven’s glory and will return to earth again to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13

The Holy Spirit:
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make us aware of our need for Jesus Christ. He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation and provides Christians with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. We seek to live under his control daily. 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13-14; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

The Bible:
God’s Word to all people, written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

Humanity:
Humanity is made in the spiritual image of God to be like him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although people have tremendous potential for good, they are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. This attitude separates people from God. Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2

God’s Creation:
God created human beings, male and female, in his own image. Men and women enjoy equal access to God by faith in Christ Jesus and are both called to move to significant engagement in family, church, and civic life. Adam and Eve were made to complement each other in a one-flesh union that establishes the only normative pattern of sexual relations for men and women, such that marriage ultimately serves as a type of the union between Christ and his church. In God’s wise purposes, men and women are not simply interchangeable, but rather they complement each other in mutually enriching ways. God ordains that they assume distinctive roles which reflect the loving relationship between Christ and the church. In the ministry of the church, both men and women are encouraged to serve Christ, lead in the areas of their gifting, and to be developed to their full potential in the ministries of the people of God. The spiritual leadership role of elder within the church being reserved for qualified men is grounded in scripture. Ephesians 5:22-33; Genesis 1:1-31; 1 Timothy 2:8-15; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; 1 Corinthians 11:8-9; Titus 1:5-9

Eternity:
Eternity is how long we were created to exist with God. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with him is heaven. Heaven and hell are places of eternal existence. John 3:16; 1 John 2:25, 5:11-13; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15

Salvation:
Salvation is by grace, through faith. It is a gift from God to all people. We can never make up for our sins by self- or good works. We are saved from sin’s penalty by trusting in Jesus Christ and his sacrifice as God’s offer of forgiveness improvement. We show our faith publicly through baptism. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1

The Church:
The Church is the body of Christ on earth. It exists to communicate the good news of new life in Jesus Christ to the world, to teach his followers to obey his teachings, and to equip his followers for ministry. The church is made up of those who have placed their faith in Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:27; Matthew 28:19-20; John 10:10; Ephesians 4:11-14; Acts 2:38

📖 Week 12 of our 2026 Bible Reading Plan starts today!

This week we continue in Deuteronomy, along with Psalms and Luke, hearing God’s call to love Him with all our heart, soul, and strength—and to walk faithfully in His ways.

Deuteronomy is a reminder: remember who God is, remember what He’s done, and choose obedience. That still matters for us today. 💛

🌟Wednesdays at Kids United Recap 🌟

This week we learned an important truth about who God is: **God is just and kind! ⚖️💙**

Through the story of **Noah and the Ark**, we saw how God always does what is right. The world had become full of sin, and because God is just, He had to punish sin. But God also showed His kindness by rescuing Noah and his family and giving a rainbow as a promise that He would never flood the whole earth again.

This story reminds us that even though our sin deserves punishment, **God showed His kindness by sending Jesus to take the punishment for us** so we can know Him and have life with Him forever.

📖 Theme Verse:
"This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent—Jesus Christ." — John 17:3

🎉 Parents: Kids who come back and say their theme verse from memory will receive a prize!

💬 Talk About It at Home:
• What does it mean that God is just?
• How did God show kindness in Noah’s story?
• Why did God send Jesus?

If you ever need help navigating these questions, we would love to help!

NEXT WEEK IS SPRING BREAK SO WE WILL SEE YOU BACK MARCH 25!💙
