National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, also called Human Trafficking Awareness Month, is acknowledged each year in January.
Many victims of human trafficking live in the darkness of our society. In many instances, both minor and adult victims of human trafficking are isolated and have been coached by their trafficker to fear law enforcement, or to lie about their circumstances. Please learn the signs trafficking so you can spot victims and report the crime.
“If you, or someone you know, are being forced to work or engage in commercial s*x, help is available.” To learn about your rights and to find services in your area, visit the human trafficking section of the Office for Victims of Crime website at www.ovc.gov/trafficking or contact the National Human Trafficking Resource Center at 888-373-7888 or traffickingresourcecenter.org.
