A heartfelt thank you to Gahyun Kim for spending time with us and telling the story of Riverside Pet Remembrance Park and the Rainbow Bridge project and to Mayor Schaunaman for sharing! Work on the area is ongoing, with a dedication ceremony for the Rainbow Bridge Memorial now being planned for late May or early June.

The crew from RBL Designs is hard at work on the landscaping for our rainbow bridge memorial in our Pet Remembrance Park. Update:

“Wow” truly doesn’t begin to cover it. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who has liked, commented, and shared—your support means more than we can express.

With over 35,000 views and counting, the response has been incredible. We are deeply grateful for this outpouring of encouragement and can’t wait to get to work creating a beautiful, peaceful memorial space for those who have lost a beloved companion.



With final approval of policies and pricing granted from our Parks and Recreation Board, we are moving forward with the start of Riverside Pet Remembrance Park.
The park will provide a dedicated space for both cremation burials and full-body interments of domestic pets. At its heart will be the Rainbow Bridge, where pet owners can place collars in remembrance of their companions. The bridge itself has been completed through a collaborative effort, with installation planned for this spring.
We are currently working to complete the park through landscaping, signage, benches, trees, and other features that will create a peaceful and welcoming environment. To help bring this vision fully to life, we are seeking support from local businesses and community partners. Donors will be recognized on park signage in appreciation of their role in making this space possible.

Join in on the America 250 festivities when we uncover the 1976 Zonta Club time capsule in Melgaard Park! Food & Ice-Cream trucks will be there!

The time capsule was originally buried on April 25, 1976, as a Bicentennial project conducted by the Zonta Club. A total of 209 boxes/packages were submitted by local businesses, organizations, families, and individuals. The project procedure at that time required participants to purchase a box, place items and papers representative of 1976 life inside, and return the sealed box along with a duplicate certificate and disposal agreement to the Zonta Club.

April 25th at 1:00pm we'll kick off with a program along with the City of Aberdeen and begin excavation!

If you have a claim to items inside the vault, head over to our website and fill out a claim form. https://dacotahprairiemuseum.org/1976-zonta-time-capsule. After 90 days, unclaimed items will become property of the Dacotah Prairie Museum.
