𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧

O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster.

During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time.

O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us. Amen.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲

The Church has celebrated Mary’s birth since at least the sixth century. A September birth was chosen because the Eastern Church begins its Church year with September. The September 8 date helped determine the date for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8.

Scripture does not give an account of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. However, the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James fills in the gap. This work has no historical value, but it does reflect the development of Christian piety. According to this account, Anna and Joachim are infertile but pray for a child. They receive the promise of a child who will advance God’s plan of salvation for the world. Such a story, like many biblical counterparts, stresses the special presence of God in Mary’s life from the beginning.

Saint Augustine connects Mary’s birth with Jesus’ saving work. He tells the earth to rejoice and shine forth in the light of her birth. “She is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious lily of the valley. Through her birth the nature inherited from our first parents is changed.” The opening prayer at Mass speaks of the birth of Mary’s Son as the dawn of our salvation and asks for an increase of peace.

𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
We can see every human birth as a call for new hope in the world. The love of two human beings has joined with God in his creative work. The loving parents have shown hope in a world filled with travail. The new child has the potential to be a channel of God’s love and peace to the world.

This is all true in a magnificent way in Mary. If Jesus is the perfect expression of God’s love, Mary is the foreshadowing of that love. If Jesus has brought the fullness of salvation, Mary is its dawning.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, cherishing the memories of our departed loved ones. Thank you for the moments we shared, the laughter we enjoyed, and the love we experienced. As we remember them, help us to find comfort and healing in our grief. May their memory be a source of strength and inspiration, reminding us of the importance of love, forgiveness, and compassion. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Jesus said to his disciples: "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again, amen, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞:

Matthew 18:15-20 provides a clear, step-by-step approach to dealing with sin and conflict within a community. We honor the dignity of the other person and open the door for genuine reconciliation by addressing issues directly and privately. This passage calls us to be proactive peacemakers, reflecting God’s love and grace in our interactions. How can we apply these principles in our own lives today? Let’s strive to be instruments of peace, following Jesus’ wise counsel in our daily relationships.

Eternal Father, we lift up to You these and all the priest of the world. Sanctify them. Heal and guide them. Mold them into the likeness of Your Son, Jesus, the Eternal high Priest. May their lives be pleasing to You. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
