The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has today made two years as Archbishop of Church of Uganda and renewed his commitment to championing Church of Uganda's agenda of self-sustainability.

He made the commitment today during a thanksgiving service prepared by the organizing committee for his enthronement.

As a souvenir project for his two years of ministry as Archbishop of Church of Uganda, the construction of Archbishop's Palace Guest Units which will be financed by the Enthronement Committee was commissioned.

According to Hon Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa the Chairperson of the committee, the project is part of development plan the Committee has for the Archbishop's period at the helm of Church of Uganda.

"As the Enthronement Committee, this is just the begining. We want Archbishop's visitors to sleep in the Palace comfortably. Every year, we shall be starting a new project until our Archbishop retires. This will help the next Committee to have less work to do in the next enthronement." Hon. Nankabirwa.

The Provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda Rev. Canon William Ongeng commended the Archbishop for his steadfast leadership and pastoral care.

"Since lockdown, the Archbishop focussed on preaching the gospel through Media and his message reached far and wide. He was able to visit all serving and retired Bishops, Widows of Bishops with relief aid which he personally mobilized, built a fully furnished house for Canon Suzan Wani the wife of the Late Archbishop Silvanus Wani and he together with Bishops are doing the same for Mama Evelyne Wathokudi the wife of the Late Bishop Alphonse Wathokudi in Nebbi. He has also ably steered the Provincial Secretariat and continues to give strategic leadership to Church of Uganda." Canon Ongeng.

Works Minister Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, IGG Hon Betti Kamya, Provincial Head of Laity Mr John Tereraho, Provincial Mothers Union President Canon Dr Ruth Senyonyi among other dignitaries graced the function.

Venerable Gaddie Akanjuna Elected next Bishop of Kigezi Diocese

The Venerable Gaddie Akanjuna has been elected the next Bishop of Kigezi Diocese. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 26th June 2022 at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Rugarama. He will succeed the Rt. Rev. George Bagamuhunda.

Ven. Akanjuna was born 10th August 1962. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Diploma of Theology from Uganda Christian University, and a Certificate in Theology from Bishop Barham Divinity College.

Ven. Akanjuna was born again in 1988. At the time, he was very sick, and the Lord convicted him and said, "If you die, you will not be accepted into eternity." He said, "I knew that I needed to repent of my immorality and sins." The following Sunday, he said, "I went to our local church and made an open confession before the congregation. The day I confessed my sins, I experienced joy that I had never experienced. Jesus Christ totally changed me."

Ven. Akanjuna is currently serving as an Archdeacon, based at All Saints’ Church, Kabale. He has served in several Archdeaconries as an Archdeacon, as a parish priest, and as a Teacher.

Ven. Akanjuna is married to Jackline Charity and the Lord has blessed them with children.

The election was made by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda sitting at Lweza Training and Conference Centre on 9th February 2022.

Church of Uganda and Vision Group have today launched partnership in form of media support worth UGX 105M to help the Church raise funds for the development of Uganda Martyrs Museum in Namugongo. This will run from February 1 until June 3 this year on Martyrs Day.

Rt Rev Jackson Matovu the Chairman of the Uganda Martyrs Museum Development Committee who represented the Archbishop of Church of Uganda commended Vision Group for their unwavering support to Church of Uganda.

“Our partnership with Vision Group from this very day as our primary corporate partner and official media partner through sponsorship of the fundraising campaign to reach millions of Ugandans to contribute to the noble action shall help us achieve our set goals in the shortest time possible.” Bishop Matovu said.

He added, “Our aim is to turn Namugongo into a World Class Faith Based and Pilgrimage Centre that will add value to the Tourism Industry in Uganda and generate income that will support and supplement activities of the Church.”

Don Wanyama the Vision Group Chief Executive Officer assured Church of Uganda of continued support using their media coverage and market leadership in Uganda and beyond.

"When Church of Uganda approached Vision Group to support their cause to raise funds for the building of this shelter to house thousands of pilgrims, who come to Namugongo on June 3 and other days, as well as to develop the place into a world-class faith-based pilgrimage site, Vision Group saw an opportunity to live their mission by distributing Church of Uganda's content to appeal to their followers and advance society," said Wanyama.

He added "Vision Group is humbled by the opportunity to be invited as the official media partner to support the Church of Uganda in its spiritual and humanitarian endeavors ahead of the 2022 Uganda Martyrs Day commemoration."
