BACKGROUND

Pastor Baraza and the wife Josephine Barasa started the Ministry when they saw a need in the Communities they received a heart for the persecuted and outcast Moslems coverts to Christianity who changed with religious treason. The call included Or

phans widows and Pastors’ children Welfare and Education after having a critical and close study of how orphans and Pastor’s children had fewer no bodies to care about them. Felt Good calling them in Mercy Ministries. They began with giving out their possessions like mattresses, clothes, cooking utensils to those who were lacking. They stirred the Church towards this Ministry to an extent that the Church members who had more than two clothes brought some of them; others brought money, watches and shoes which were given to the needy. The Church has many mercy programmes but with none about the children of Pastors who are dropping out of school having no adequate medical care and even under nourished because lesser or no support to pastors and yet these are the people who spend almost al their life, on other peoples physical welfare. WORD OF HOPE EMPOWERMENT MINISTRIES

WHEM is a twelve progrmmes, Christian Organisation with God’s real heart of concern to the orphans, widows, street children, people with disabilities, & the poor. It is a Ministry with an open hand to other services or help in different areas of need to the needy in the society. WHEM is an empowerment Ministry, as it doesn’t degrade the need by making them feel department, helpless and useless. It rather builds up their dignity and responsibility by giving them a sense of their importance and be able to help others rather than making them dependant & retarded on the help they receive. NOTE: People are truly helped & charged when they too begin helping & reaching to others instead of just thinking about their own needs and problems Eph:28. FEEDING PROGRAMME:

The need for proper food is one of the most urgent and desperate needs to human life. Tens of millions of African Children suffer from malnutrition retarded physical and mental development, diseases, disability and death. Lack of enough food has been one of the reasons why children have left their homes and turned out to be street children
The feeding programmes role is to see to it that famine stricken people especially orphans. Poor nutrition has been the greatest cause of poor health, theft and murder. Orphans, widows, disabled and street children, are provided with low cost relief foodstuffs. This is proposed to be conducted as follows: cooked food to be given:

- At least once in a week to the street children
- At least twice a week to the widows and to the disabled
- Grain supply to those who can utilize them for more production

Fresh food and foods like Posho, beans etc will only be given to those who already have homes like orphans in their orphanages and widows. There is a need of opening a feeding centre to the homeless. FARMING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME:

Farming is the source of food and Africa’s main source of income
Our economy is based mainly on farming. Poor farming has been the main cause of poverty in many parts of Africa. This programme will have to:-

places) and not only depending on rainy seasons which are
changing time to time. (b) Provide water-pumping machines. MEDICAL AND HEALTH CARE PROGRAMME:

Poor health remains the most serious problem in Africa due to Tropical diseases and parasites. Many deaths have occurred due to few Medical Units whose services are upto date. HIV/AIDS is a lamentation song sung every where by every one religious leaders, political leaders, NGO workers, but without solutions. Poor people, orphans, widows have not afforded to visit hospitals where treatment of some diseases are too expensive for them. People have suffered from and died of sickness such as listed below because of lack of adequate treatment and care.

1. Malaria – an outstanding killer disease in Africa with no vaccine. Young children from poor families where they can’t afford to buy a mosquito net or insect sides have died innumerably. Those who live along way away from health centres have either died or left epileptic due to severe febrile malaria that attacks children and causes convulsions and unconsciousness to the victim. The result is recurring convulsions and finally epilepsy. Adults have run mad because of cerebral malarial God help Africa.
2. Bilharzia a deadly disease caused by drinking unsafe water whose treatment is one of the most expensive ones.
3. Cholera – an instant dehydration killer disease caused by poor sanitation.
4. Ebola, meningitis etc among many, many others have become life devastors.
5. HIV/AIDS – though this is an unsolved global problem, Africa has been the highest degree sufferer of lives looser. Lack of tender care, lack of relieving drugs and far away – located health services especially to people in up country has caused the AIDS problem even more dangerous. Many orphans, widows and street children have been a product of this disease. Therefore, the Medical and Health care programme will ensure that:

1. Medical care and counseling extends near to people in up Country.
2. Medical learns are invited from every where in the world
3. Mosquito nets, insecticides and up date malaria drugs are provided science is taught to the community.
4. Digging & building pit latrines to the poor improve sanitation. Health science is taught to the community.
5. Health units are proved where services can be easily reached. SAFE WATER PROVISION PROGRAMME:

As it truly stands, water is life. But unsafe water is good as poison. Lack of unsafe water has caused many deaths in many instances. Many people, especially in rural areas have suffered a lot as a result of drinking unclean water. People drink water from un protected wells, ponds, and cisterns. Poor sanitation and unsafe water has caused the spread of fast killing diseases as Bilharzia, cholera, Tape and Hook worms etc.

1. Safe water supply reaches the needy – boreholes must be provided
2. Water treatment before use is practiced. EDUCATION PROGRAMME:

There is no other future investment than education. Education is wealth, power and success. Though education is encouraged by government, there are still a lot of children who don’t go to school especially orphans who lack somebody (parents) to motivate them. In rural areas, children which physical disabilities & ailments have very little or no chance at all of going to school. The result has birthed street children, thugs, drug-addicts, and the jobless that has become the order of the day in cities. And NOBODY is minding. The education programme will prepare the future of these people by:-

1. Teaching Literacy – this will be able to provide
(a) Primary Education – (P.1 – P.7)
(b) Senior Secondary Education (S.1 – S.6)
(c) Adult Education.

2. Offering education sponsorship and scholarships
3. Putting a strong emphasis on girl child education and strongly fight against molesting girl – children so that they rise to a balanced level of human status in the society.
4. Empowering both boy and girl children to actively exercise their talents in fields of games and sports, Drama, Music and others. JOB SKILL TRAINING PROGRAMME:

According to the vast number of the needy (orphans, widows, the disabled and the jobless) and according to job competition due to few job opportunities, it is a wasted to effort to offer them education, financial and material support without preparing them to sustain themselves. NOBODY can help you forever!. Therefore this programme is meant to offer job skill training for self employment. Proposed job skills include:-

1. Commercial cooking
2. Weaving
3. Tailoring
4. Carpentry and furniture making
5. Plumbing
6. Automobile repair
7. Electrical repair
8. Building
9. Computer Secretarial work
10. Brick making
11. Baker work
12. Farming
(a) Crop growing
(b) Livestock keeping
(c) Poultry keeping
(d) Bee keeping

Remember, give me a fish, you will be able to feed me for a meat but give me a net and teach me how to fish and I will be able to feed myself and others for life. WIDOW/ORPHAN HOME AND ADOPTION PROGRAMME:

Many children loitering in cities well known by the name street children are children with no caring home any where on planet earth!. While some few of them were enticed to leave home by some body and go to towns “search for work” the greatest number of children on streets came from homes, which were too poor to cater for them, or from homes where they were physically and psychologically fortuned due to divorce and broken marriage relationships. As such, children resorted to going in cities in hope of an opportunity at ‘earning a living’ for themselves which unfortunately only resulted into this big filthy name, STREET CHILDREN: seeing that the worse had become the worst, they resorted to becoming addicted to drugs in an attempt to prevent the memories and thoughts about their desolated homes, and to becoming pick pockets and thugs which has caused many unnoticed and uncared about deaths to them! God help. Like orphans, according to African Culture, widows are people without any say. The moment the husband dies, all her home property and land is taken by the brothers and relatives of the deceased. Poor lady is ordered to get married to a given heir or leave the home with NOTHING. “You came alone and you must go alone”, They mock, this has left many widows wanderers without home and help. If her house falls down, nobody is ready to help her build or repair it. The same story applies to the disabled. Therefore it is the mandate of the WHEM’s programme to provide help by:

1. Building orphanage homes with proper home environment and care.
2. Setting up habitations for street children
3. Building simple homes and shelter for homeless widows.
4. Looking for volunteers to adopt some of these orphan and street children
5. Building orphan and widow directorate offices. COVER AND DRESS PROGRAMME:

Since orphans, widows, the disabled and street children have no body to care about them, they lead the hardest life in all aspects of living. Many have been stricken by pneumonia and the like diseases caused by coldness. A great deal of them sleep without anything with which to cover themselves to keep warm in the cold night. Some have only one dress that they have to wash every night before they put it on the following morning. Others, the same dresses they put on during day time is the same clothes key use for covering themselves at night. What a miserable life! This programme is to provide for:-

1. Coverings – blankets, bed sheets and shoes
2. Clothing
3. Other domestic utensils like saucepans, plates mugs etc. REQUIRED RESOURCES:
