IT KEEPS COMING

"But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna."(Numbers 11:6). The children of Israel in Exodus had manna as their food for 40 years. It was the same same food throughout all that time. They loathed it and hated it but it kept coming. Every day they ate the same meal and were filled, they were healthy, they made progress but manna never changed. They ate manna while grumbling but there was nothing better. Many times they offended their God and provoked Him to anger. They remembered the onions and cucumbers and fish. I think they were suggesting to God to broaden His menu. Yet He kept supplying the manna. Today we have His Word which never changes. Today we have His word comes every day and every moment. It changes us, it blesses us, it grows us, it fills us with wisdom, it literally does miracles. But we keep on tossing ourselves around seeking for the spectacular. We want to see a stone cutting itself without hands. We look to the skies to look for some signs. And the Lord just gets real with His word more than ever before. His word keeps coming inspite of our emotions. His word never changes. It's like manna in the way it comes. We cannot be like that mixed multitude and the children of Israel who loathed the manna. We know that without His Word we have no tomorrow. Let the Word keep coming.

JESUS PERFUMED

“Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him, Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?” (John 12:3-5) I think if Mary came with a worthless perfume and sprayed it on Jesus, she would be applauded by the disciples of Jesus. But what caused this indignation was because she brought a very precious alabaster box of ointment. It was very precious and she poured it all on Jesus. Judas Iscariot spoke and vented out his rage for what this lady had done. I am sure many others who were there shared his sentiments quietly. That’s why in many churches today almost everything is done haphazardly, the church is a shanty structure, the choir’s attire is miserable, the offering baskets are deplorable, the songs that are sung are half baked, they don’t respect time, the sermon is prepared for some few, there is nothing you can point to as their best. Imagine if what this lady brought was a song. Imagine if what this lady brought was a sermon. Why don’t we give Jesus the most precious and the best? I have been to churches which look like chicken pens when the pastor has a palatial residence. I have seen a brother or a sister get into trouble because they have given ‘a lot’ to God. But we should be humble and give God the most precious, the very best of all that we have because even God gave us the best. Jesus is the best gift God gave to the world. Let us give Him the best.
