THE CORNET DAILY DEVOTIONAL
POWER IN THE TONGUE II
Sunday 31st May, 2026
Pastor David Omongole
“While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God…” (Acts 10:44-46 KJV)
As Peter was speaking the Word of God in the house of Cornelius, the Holy Ghost fell on the people who heard the Word. The Holy Spirit responded to the words Peter spoke and the people were filled with the Holy Spirit, they spoke with tongues and magnified God.
By this time, Peter had learnt about the power in the tongue. Do you remember the story of Ananias and Sapphira? They did not die because God hated them, it was Peter’s words that killed them (Acts 5:1-10). In Acts 8 when Simon the sorcerer wanted to buy the gift of God with money, Peter rebuked him but he did not die (Acts 8:9-24). Peter had learnt that his tongue had power and he did not use it rashly. This is what God expects of us.
He wants us to tame our tongues in such a way that He can use them for His glory. You can come to a place where your words are so respectable that God can respond to them. This starts with you honoring your words. If you have been talking anyhow, study to be quiet. Put on self-control. Meditate on the Word of God so much so that whenever you talk, only the Word of God comes forth.
In the house of Cornelius, Peter stirred up the glory of the Spirit by speaking the Word of God. You can stir up the same glory in your life by speaking the Word of God. When you meet up with a fellow brother or sister, talk the Word of God and you will see the glory of God. Even in your family, have time to talk the Word of God, the glory of God will be manifest. Hallelujah!
CONFESSION
I train my tongue to speak words that build and edify. I give myself wholly to the Word of God, meditating on it day and night. I keep the Word of God in my mouth. As I speak the Word, I observe to do according to all that is written therein. I make my way prosperous and have good success. My life is full of glory. Hallelujah!
FURTHER STUDY
Proverbs 18:20-21 AMP
A man's [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil]. (21) Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].
James 3:2 AMP
For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone does not offend in speech [never says the wrong things], he is a fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature.
