*JESUS AS A PRAYER COVER*

Shepherd's Voice Daily Devotion
August 2026, Day 3
With Pastor Tunde Taiwo

Romans 8:34
Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us." KJV

We see that Jesus prayed for Peter and John. John 17:17-26 shows us the prayers of Jesus for the church; in verse 20 to be precise He said: “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” That was in his earthly ministry, but I need you to know that He is still interceding for the saints and the church. Rom 8:34 Who is there to condemn us? Will Christ Jesus, the Messiah, Who died, or rather Who was raised from the dead, Who is at the right hand of God pleading as He intercedes for us? AMP.

After Jesus ascended to heaven and was seated at the right hand of God the Father... Acts 1:9, Col. 3:1, He returned to the glory He had before His incarnation like we read in John 17:5 to carry on His role as King of kings and Lord of Lord's. This old earth continues to be won for Christ through the church. Jesus is standing as the Advocate for those in Christ, meaning He is our great Defender. This is the intercessory role He currently fulfills for those who are His 1John 2:1. Jesus is always pleading our case before the Father, like a defense lawyer on our behalf.

Jesus is interceding for us while Satan, whose name means accuser, is accusing us, pointing out our sins and frailties before God, just as he did with Job in Job 1:6-12. But the accusations fall upon deaf ears in heaven because Jesus’ work on the cross paid our debt to sin in full; therefore, God always sees in His children the perfect righteousness of Jesus. When Jesus died on the cross, His righteousness, the perfect holiness, was imputed to us, while our sin was imputed to Him at His death. This is the great exchange Paul talks about in 2 Cor 5:21. That took away forever our sinful state before God, so God can accept us as blameless before Him.

RAISING PRAYER COVER FOR SOULS

Shepherd's Voice Daily Devotion

1 Timothy. 2:1-4
The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. (Msg)

Yesterday, we saw Paul writing about the various classes of persons we need to pray for: “Pray every way you know how for everyone you know.” I would like to draw your attention to the fourth verse, where Paul emphasizes another reason why we need to pray. (1Tim2:4) He wants not only us but everyone saved, you know, everyone to get to know the truth we've learned. (Msg). Friends, you need to pray because God wants everyone saved; He wants your friends, families, children, neighbors, and communities to be saved. “But even if our Gospel (the glad tidings) also be hidden (obscured and covered up with a veil that hinders the knowledge of God), it is hidden [only] to those who are perishing and obscured [only] to those who are spiritually dying and veiled [only] to those who are lost.” (2cor. 4:3)

The gospel is hidden to many; we have a lot of religious people with no personal encounter with Jesus. Why? There is a veil covering them. God needs you to stand in the place of prayer on their behalf. When you see people contending against the things of God, or promoting false beliefs or human ideology, they are under the control and the manipulation of the god of this world “4 For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers' minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God. AMP”

Anyone you see out there who is rejecting salvation is under the control of the god of this world; he is blinding their minds, preventing them from seeing the glorious gospel of Jesus. It will take prayers to pull off the veils so they can see.

Haven’t you heard of individuals who said words like ‘I didn't know what made me reject salvation up until now '? They say such words after they began to enjoy the glorious gospel of Jesus. Stand as a cover for somebody's salvation.

Take out time now and pray for specific members of your family, friends, and community for their salvation.

Lord, help me to yield to the leadership of your Spirit as I pray for the salvation of those who do not know you.

RAISING PRAYER COVER FOR TERRITORIES

Matthew 18:19-20
"Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

When you decide to take on the duty of being a prayer cover over your environment, you will automatically create and decide what and how you want the place to look like. The scriptures encourage us to pray for all people, regardless of their religious inclinations, and more importantly, those in leadership (1 Tim 2:1-4). The first thing I want you to do is to pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. 2 Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. 3 This is the way our Savior God wants us to live. 4 He wants not only us but everyone saved, you know, everyone to get to know the truth we've learned. (Msg)

Our prayers are essential to the growth and development of the systems in which we find ourselves. The Scriptures above admonish us to pray for our leaders, first for direction, and secondly, so that we may live a godly and honest life. Imagine if there were no prayer covers; immorality, murder, injustice, and all manner of social vices would be worse than what they are today. When there is prayer failure, the agents of darkness and their human representatives take over territories. They take charge of politics, systems, ministries, and the rest. When we pray on behalf of the President or our various leadership structures, we are standing in as Priests to mediate or request God’s help for them.

Have you ever prayed for the leadership of your Cell, District, City, Province, or Nation? Some people curse rather than pray. There are people with more cursing vocabulary than blessings. Don’t mistake this for spiritual warfare; it is a different ball game altogether. Many people have cursed the government and systems that God placed around them and wonder why they have not been blessed by such systems. Some people are not patriotic; you will never hear them say anything good about their organizations.

Will you stand as a cover to impose God’s counsel over your territory? God is looking for a man who will stand at the gate of time to usher Him in, to intervene in territories.

NECESSITY OF PRAYER PARTNER(S) -3

Romans 15:30
'Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me’

”A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. (Eccl.4:12 NLT)” The scripture is pointing our attention to how important it is to have others join forces with us as we engage in prayers. When you stand alone, the enemy will attack you, suppress you, and defeat you. When you are two, you can watch each other’s back; a team of three cannot be defeated.

Paul requested prayers; he wrote a personal letter to the Thessalonians church requesting that they stand with him in prayers; furthermore, Brethren, do pray for us, that the Word of the Lord may spread on (spread rapidly and run its course) and be glorified (extolled) and triumph, even as [it has done] with you, 2 And that we may be delivered from perverse (improper, unrighteous) and wicked (actively malicious) men, for not everybody has faith and is held by it. ( 2 Thes. 3:1-2 AMP)

I will suggest that we all pray these prayers for our spiritual leaders, of course, a man who has impacted your life. Paul's prayers in the above passage can be summarized thus: the word will have a free course; it will have the same impact as it had on you, to be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men. Men who are making a significant impact in life, both in the kingdom of light and darkness, have men who stand at the gate for them. It’s on record that Dr. Yonggi Cho had 2,000 such people. John Maxwell had 100 of them. Peter Wagner had 19 of them. Reinhard Bonnke had 10 of them, and the Redeemed Christian Church of God had 12 of such full-time intercessors. Is anyone still in doubt about why they are making such a mighty impact?

Those in the Kingdom of darkness have heavy demonic altars; some have groups of witches they surround themselves with. I read of an African President who hired witch doctors from several African nations to protect him spiritually. Who are those standing with you?

Action Point:
Have at least one person you are sure can stand with you. For those of us in ministry, have a faithful team of two to three that can stand with you, not necessarily full-time, except if God is already leading you in that direction.

THE NECESSITY OF PRAYER PARTNER(S) -2

Job 2:9
Then said his wife unto him, dost thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God, and die. KJV

Imagine you find yourself in a situation where all that keeps coming out of your mouth is Lord why me, like the case of Job; he lost everything he ever worked for; his investments and empire crumbled in a split second. He had a thousand questions with no answers.

I sense deeply that Job went through that entire elongated wilderness because of the absence of a prayer partner. No one was praying for him, and even though Satan had a conversation with God over him, all that Job needed to interrupt that negative move was a prayer cover from a partner. Did you remember the wife's first statement, Job 2:9? Then said his wife unto him, dost thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God, and die. KJV. It’s like asking you if you still want to remain a Christian due to the challenges you are going through; his family was divided, and so it was an opportunity for the enemy to hit them badly.

Couples are supposed to be prayer partners, and when you don’t feel like praying, your partner should be the one to encourage you. What about his friends? They aggravated the matter by blackmailing him. (Job 2:10-11)? He lost courage and faith, and at some point, he began to curse the day he was born. The absence of spiritual energy is a result of prayer failure. (Job 3:1-end) When the storm began to hit this guy, the bible said Job didn’t sin against God, but when he became low in the spirit with heavy attacks from the gate of hell, he opened his mouth and activated a move that elongated his stay and pain in the wilderness.

When you find yourself at such points, that’s the time to call for prayers. Ask faithful and truthful friends to stand with you. John too was imprisoned, and no one prayed for him. During that period, he picked up an offense with Jesus, and in a matter of days he was beheaded. On the other hand, while Peter was in prison, the church stood as a cover in the place of prayer to secure his release. Man of God, child of God, or woman of God, is your church or partner praying for you or preying on you?

Matthew 26:38
Then He said to them, "My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me."

The enemy is increasing his onslaught against the people of God, families, and institutions at a very crazy speed; hence we cannot but pray. Paul admonishes the Thessalonian church to pray without ceasing. (1Thess. 5:1.) How do I get into praying without ceasing, with my busy schedule and too many other things to attend to? Please, it’s important to note that you will personally need to get into praying to be able to fight the good fight of faith, either praying for people, places, or things. You will need to be involved as a person. My emphasis is on the need for us to generate more spiritual energy through various prayer channels designed by God.

You do not assign or delegate the call to prayer; nonetheless, you need others to generate a strong force in the realm of the spirit to be able to fight well. Then He said to them, "My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me." Jesus here was at a crossroads -needed some push for the task ahead of Him; a lot of ideas were flying through His mind the same way it happens to us. So He requested his right-hand men to stand with Him in prayer.

Astonishingly, in verse 40, He found them sleeping and asked, “Were you not able to keep watch with me for an hour? Matt. 26:38. He asked Peter. Can’t you stand with me in prayer just for an hour? He needed that pull of energy for the task ahead of Him; unfortunately, his partners were overwhelmed with sleep. That one hour meant a lot for Jesus. Little wonder why he had to go again and again to pull more energy to go through the pain, rejection, and betrayal, and to generate the WILL to surrender to the Father's wish. Friends, you need someone to pray with you or for you. Many times we lose spiritual battles because we are lone rangers; there must be someone covering your back on their knees.

GOD NEEDS A MAN -2

So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.

God does nothing, says nothing, and changes nothing in humanity without a man. It is men who move eternity to humanity. God will always search and locate a man to enforce His purpose. Do you know that for you to be saved, and for God to reveal the grace of the Salvation you're enjoying today, somebody somewhere stood in the gap on your behalf? While in my mid-twenties, I found my mother taking out time every week at midnight to pray for us. One day I was so offended that I began to ask if she was the one who killed Jesus, especially when she prayed for us by mentioning our names. Being an unbeliever then, I didn't understand the power in that weekly ritual she was doing until I encountered Jesus. Now I know better; those prayers were the sweet fragrance that ascended to Heaven and intercepted me from making negative moves at a tender age.

Things change when men pray. The prophecy and the prediction about the birth of Jesus were printed everywhere on the pages of the bible. To bring the prophecy to pass, the bible told us of a widow who spent the whole of her widowhood interceding expectantly for the birth of the Messiah. Luke.2:36-38. To bring to manifestation or enforce God’s purpose on earth, we need men who will stand in the gap. We have not witnessed certain dimensions of help for a lack of prayer force. If God needs a man, we also need men to stand with us. The truth is, the quantum destruction and attack against the marriage institutions, churches, and the faithful is because of the absence of prayer covers.

The other time, Jesus raised a team of men to pray with Him, who ended up sleeping at the prayer mountain. Some people go to Prayer Mountains to gossip, some to admire the place or meet new friends rather than pray. Can I ask you a question that requires a heart search? Who is praying for you, and who are you praying for?

Action Point:
Take up the prayer responsibility for the salvation and deliverance of somebody's soul, and get serious with spiritual matters; it will bring profit to you.

Prayer Point:
Father, give me a prayer burden for the lost, those in need, and the people around me, and connect me to the people that will truly watch my back in the place of prayer.

GOD NEEDS A MAN -1

Isaiah 6:8
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” NIV.

God is either looking for a man to send or use; reading through the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation, you will come to understand that God's purpose in and for humanity suffers many setbacks where there are no willing men. The omnipotent God cannot operate in the realm of humanity without a man.

Where men are scarce, God is handicapped. For example, when God wanted to spare S***m from destruction, He went to look for a human instrument that would appeal for the suspension of judgment and the release of mercy. Unfortunately, no one was found to intercede for that land, and it suffered irreversible destruction. Gen.18:30 -33. God reigns in heaven and the earth He gave over to man. Ps.115:16.

The president of America, who is said to be one of the most powerful on earth, cannot fly into Uganda without express permission from the President of Uganda, even though he is more powerful, and that’s why God will always need a man as an entry point to step into humanity to execute His counsel and purpose. When He responds to our prayers, He does it through the same tools. Call it divine intervention, miracles, favor, or blessings. I am calling you to become that man or woman God can commit the privilege of enforcing His purpose on earth to. In S***m, He found none, and he destroyed that city. Will you rise today and become a prayer cover for somebody so they can be saved, so they can access the grace of God, so they can escape destruction?

I remember one early morning over twenty years ago, I was praying at about 4:00 am, and I received a prompting in my spirit to pray for my eldest sister who was then pregnant. A couple of hours later that morning, her husband came to share the good news. She was laboring, while I was praying without prior knowledge of the situation. The picture is that eternity wanted to intervene but needed a human vessel, so the Holy Spirit prompted me to stand in. May your spiritual antenna be sharpened to the heavenly conversation that requires human partnership with divinity.

THE ACTIVATOR OF FAITH FOR THE SUPERNATURAL

Luke 4:18
_The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed._

We need the supernatural faith to do the extraordinary, to move mountains, to heal the sick, to do the impossible, and to walk on the waters. This faith is activated when you settle on the word revealed and received; the Rhema word. Jesus said the words I speak to you are spirit and they are life.- (John. 6:63). There are times when the word comes alive in your spirit, but when you can't connect to the word to release a miracle, praying in the Spirit is what you do to activate your faith for a supernatural experience.

When you pray in the Spirit, you charge your spirit. (Jude 20) When you pray in the Spirit continuously, it stirs something in you that makes you operate at a level where your fears are no longer in the driver’s seat but your faith; it is a process where you drown your fear and empower your faith. It is the realm of possibilities; at that point, you can lay your hands on the sick and cast out demons because you are operating at the level of a spirit entity (deity) though in flesh.

There are about four levels of flow mentioned in the book of Ezek. 47:1; Go beyond the kindergarten level. When you enter into the flow at the waist level, which is the third level, the supernatural becomes a possibility. When you pray, and you get to a point where you can’t stop or control your tongue, you are entering an unusual altitude in the spirit. Unfortunately, many people don't know how to engage such moments to their advantage. At that point, you have stirred up the pool, and the heavens above you are open. You are not speaking the language of men at that point. That's what praying in tongues does for you. If you want to operate 24 hours in the supernatural, spend time praying in the Spirit.

When you are allowed to serve, to minister, to do a task even at work, spend time brooding in the Spirit. You switch on the supernatural side of you that makes you produce amazing results. If there is something around you that is not working, focus on it, and spend 30 mins, 45mins, 1hour, and 2 hours in the Spirit. You will get to a point, and the heavens will respond to your plea.
