In past few days I was one of the Christian leaders invited to pray and dedicate the Primary seven candidates who were to seat for their primary leaving examination. Among other church leaders were Anglican, Pentecostal and a Muslim Imam!
The primary school invited us is close to our home and we have some children who come to church every Sunday. In fact some of my children have attended this school for their primary education and I do still have children in this school. The school is owned by a Christian couple known to me very well.
We dedicated about fifteen children boys and girls. All of the church leaders spoke and prayed most of them based their prayers in the Bible. I also prayed and encouraged the candidates. The Muslim Imam also was invited, and a Muslim Imam his turn came to also encourage the pupils which he did as a leader and parent before he concluded he invited another imam who came as a parent to lead the candidates in prayer , he told everyone to bow facing east and begun praying in Arabic language and as he concluded his prayer in luganda language.
As he requested everyone to bow facing east personally I didn't, I looked at my friends ( Christians leaders) non bowed facing east all of us remained seated in our chairs. The pupils ( candidates) bowed and faced east, the Muslim friend used like thirty minutes.
What could I have done in a situation like this? We have hundreds of commercial Christian School owned by Christians and others commercial Christian organizations. How should a Christian school be different from others? Should christians mix their faith to have a community support in order to make money other than Jesus Christ the Lord to be praised and glorified?
In my pastoral assignments I have been to at least something like this I didn't witness though we had children from different religious background. We only preached from the Bible and we prayed to our Lord God through Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour. Praise the Lord some believed
