Saint Mary's Cathedral Rubaga, commonly referred to as Rubaga Cathedral, is the parent cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala, the oldest Roman Catholic diocese in Uganda. The Cathedral is located on Lubaga Hill, in Lubaga Division, in the western part of the city of Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest city in the country. Lubaga is located approximately 3 kilometres (1.

9 mi), by road, west of the central business district of Kampala. Kabaka Mutesa I Mukaabya Walugembe, the 30th Kabaka of Buganda, who reigned from 1856 until 1884, once maintained a palace on Lubaga Hill. When fire destroyed the palace, he abandoned the hill and relocated to Mengo Hill. In 1889, his son Mwanga II of Buganda, donated that land to the French Catholic missionaries (White Fathers) who were setting up the nascent Catholic church in the country, at that time. In 1914 the missionaries began constructing a modern cathedral at Lubaga (Rubaga). Construction was completed in 1925 and St. Mary's Cathedral Rubaga was consecrated on 31 December 1925.

Dear current students and alumni of CHUSS,

INVITATION TO THE LAUNCH OF THE JULIUS NYERERE LEADERSHIP CENTRE (JNLC)

Makerere University together with Uganda Management Institute is pleased to invite you to the launch of the Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre (JNLC) at Makerere University. The launch of the Centre on Saturday, October 6th 2018 at 10:30am will be marked by an Inaugural Lecture by His Excellency President Yoweri K. Museveni.

The idea for the Centre was first mooted by His Excellency the President in August 2017 at the Nelson Mandela Commemorative Lecture that highlighted the need to create a cross–generation platform, “Ekyoto”, to tap into the lived and rich experiences of African leaders in different fields and in different national contexts.

Set up as a lasting legacy for Muwalimu Julius Nyerere, the Leadership Centre will take its point of departure for action from his life-long held belief that “if real development is to take place, the people have to be involved”. Through innovative policy research and analysis, youth training and mentoring and periodic debates, the Centre will provide an important platform for experiential learning and leadership development by distinguished Africans, private sector actors, intellectuals, scholars, and other accomplished African men and women to share, nurture, mentor, challenge and account to the next generation of African leaders.

This invitation to the launch of the Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre and the Inaugural Lecture by His Excellency the President, Yoweri K. Museveni, is extended to you as a friend of Makerere University and the Uganda Management Institute and indeed an important stakeholder in the governance of this country.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Hasifa Kabejja, Principal Communication Officer CHUSS (Tel.: 0774904211, email: [email protected]); Ms. Ritah Namisango, the Principal Public Relations Officer - Makerere University (Tel:0702944224, email: [email protected]) or Prof. Gerald K.
