*The Danger of Avoiding God's Mission*
Text: Matthew 16:24-26, Luke 9:23-25, John 12:24-26
Beloved, as Christians, we're called to follow Jesus, not our own desires. But often, we prioritize our own plans over God's mission. Let's explore the dangers of self-focus and the importance of surrendering to God's will.
*The Danger of Self-Focus*
When we prioritize our desires, we miss God's best (Matthew 16:25, Luke 9:24). Our sinful desires lead us astray (Jeremiah 2:13, Proverbs 14:12). We're warned that gaining the world but losing our soul is a grave mistake (Matthew 16:26, Mark 8:36).
*God's Mission vs. Our Desires*
God's mission is to love and serve others, sharing the Gospel (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8). In contrast, our desires are often self-centered, leading to sin and separation from God (James 1:14-15, Romans 6:12-14).
*Biblical Examples*
- Jonah avoided God's mission and faced consequences (Jonah 1:1-3, 2:1-2).
- Saul pursued his own desires and lost God's favor (1 Samuel 15:10-23, 28:15-19).
- David surrendered to God's will and became a man after God's heart (Acts 13:22, Psalm 51:10-12).
*The Path to Restoration*
To avoid the danger of self-focus, we must:
1. Surrender to God (Romans 12:1-2, Luke 9:23).
2. Follow Jesus (Matthew 16:24, Luke 9:23).
3. Seek God's kingdom (Matthew 6:33, Luke 12:31).
Let's choose God's mission over our sinful desires. Surrender, follow Jesus, and seek His kingdom.
May God bless you as you seek to follow Him. ππ
