Spiritual Food - Encouraging MEDITATION - 22/01/16
Matthew 4:1-11
Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness
4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God,tell these stones to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]”
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]”
MEDITATION
Jesus was fasting and was hungry and he was feeding on Spiritual food and very quickly the devil wanted him to get diverted so he gives him a quick idea, ‘turn these stones into bread’. But Jesus said, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’. Somewhere else in the scriptures Jesus told his disciples that He has food to eat that they do not know about. That means there must be a balance between Spiritual and physical food and one must not mix the two. That is why we see Jesus was fully man and yet without sin. Too much of the physical food or physical food taken at wrong time may damage the spiritual body.
Have you learnt to consume and digest the word of God to bring you satisfaction? Has there been a time when you are determined to fast and all of a sudden you hear about a party and then you choose to postpone the fast. Or if you plan to end your fast at a particular time and then you end it prematurely because something nice to eat has shown up? When we learn to digest the spiritual food to satisfaction the devil will not be able to rule our flesh and thus make it possible to live a sinless life.
In Christs service.
