The Uganda Episcopal Conference is the Assembly of the Catholic Hierarchy in Uganda, constituted with the approval of the Holy See, through which Bishops express their collegial responsibility through collective action, to assure the progress of the Church and coordination of its social and pastoral ministry. It is headed by a Chairman elected every four years. He is assisted by an Executive Board, also chosen every four years, composed of six Chairmen of various Commissions. The final report of the synod's Canon Law commission was published yesterday by the General Secretariat of the Synod. Established to serve the Synod, in agreement with the Dicastery for Legislative Texts, the commission worked on the basis of the results of the 2021–24 synodal process. The document explains that the commission sought to identify how the theological and ecclesiological insights emerging from the synodal process could be translated into canonical norms, distinguishing three time horizons.

In the short term, it proposes amendments to the current legislation that could immediately support ecclesial life as it unfolds in concrete circumstances. These proposals constitute the subject of the present report. In the medium term, it identifies several areas that, arising from the needs highlighted by the synodal process, could be addressed in a cross-cutting manner and together with the competent Dicasteries, through new Instructions or revisions of those already in force. Finally, in the long term, it envisages a comprehensive revision of the two Codes of Canon Law—the Latin and the Eastern Codes—so that they may incorporate the theological and ecclesiological insights that have emerged. POPE AT AUDIENCE REMEMBERS POLISH MARTYRS

During his General Audience, Pope Leo XIV recalled the Polish martyrs of Pratulin in the Podlasie region: Blessed Wincenty Lewoniuk and his 12 Companions. The Greek Catholics were killed by soldiers of the Russian Empire in the 19th century after refusing to abandon their faith. Their witness shows steadfast fidelity to the Catholic Church and communion with the Successor of Peter.

Yesterday, Pope Leo XIV left France aboard an Air France flight, returning to Rome after his fifth international apostolic journey, which took him to Paris, Lourdes and Metz from 25 to 28 September 2026.

The Pope's departure followed a private meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron inside the airport building, and then an official farewell ceremony on the tarmac with full military honours in the presence of civil and religious authorities.

After the Guard of Honour, a band played both the French national anthem and the Pontifical Anthem as is customary.

From migration to artificial intelligence, the Christian roots of Europe and pressing ethical concerns regarding the protection of life, as well as reiterated appeals to pray and work for peace in our fragmented world, Pope Leo‘s discourses, homilies and presence at different events shone a light on some of the biggest challenges facing Europe, the Catholic Church and French society.

On the occasion of the Plenary Session of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, yesterday Pope Leo received its members in the Clementine Hall of the Vatican. He highlighted both the enormous potential of technology in healthcare, food production, and the pursuit of knowledge about the universe, and, on the other hand, its still-uncertain impact on humanity’s future.
