Pope Leo XIV: "No nation, no society, and no international order can call itself just and humane if it measures its success solely by power or prosperity while neglecting those who live at the margins. Indeed, Christ’s love for the least and the forgotten compels us to reject every form of selfishness that leaves the poor and the vulnerable invisible."

The General Secretariat of the Synod publishes a document outlining stages, criteria, and tools to guide local Churches toward the Ecclesial Assembly set for October 2028.

Remembering, interpreting, orienting, celebrating. These are the four key stages accompanying local Churches, Bishops' Conferences, and continental groupings towards the Ecclesial Assembly that will take place in October 2028 in the Vatican.

They are proposed by the General Secretariat of the Synod in support of the implementation phase through the document Towards the 2027–2028 Assemblies: stages, criteria, and tools in preparation for the 2027–2028 Assemblies, published on 20 May.

The text defines the calendar, methodology, and criteria through which local Churches throughout the world and their national and continental groupings are called to share the fruits of the journey begun after the Final Document of the 2021–2024 Synod, leading up to the Ecclesial Assembly of October 2028.

Congratulations to Bishop Simon Peter Engurait on being conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from Notre Dame Seminary in recognition of his dedication to priestly formation during the 2026 Commencement Exercises.

Fr. Josh Rodrigue, Rector, said: “Today, Notre Dame Seminary proudly honors Bishop Simon Peter Engurait— priest, shepherd, alumnus and witness to the providence of God, whose journey From Uganda to Louisiana stands as a testament to faith, perseverance and the universal mission of the Church.”

Bishop Simon Peter addressed the graduates:
“I cannot help but look back with gratitude on the six wonderful years of formation I spent here. Those years shaped me deeply intellectually, spiritually, pastorally and personally. Yet, during those years, I had no idea what the Lord had in store for me. I could not have predicted the path my life would take once I left these formative grounds—the responsibilities I would one day carry and the blessings and challenges that would come my way. Looking back now, I see more clearly that God often prepares us quietly and patiently before we understand where he is leading us.” He added, “If you remain open and available to God, he can accomplish extraordinary things through ordinary people. Our lives are shaped in the ordinary decisions of each day. The future you dream about begins with how you live today.”

KASESE CATHOLIC DIOCESE ONLINE TV UPDATES
Roman Catholic Diocese of Kasese is intensifying efforts to mobilize and prepare believers ahead of the upcoming celebrations at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine Namugongo.

The diocese says it is putting in place all necessary measures to ensure strong participation, spiritual readiness, and smooth coordination for pilgrims attending the annual commemoration.

Today, the diocese held a Pre-Martyrs Walk as part of the preparations for the event, which it will lead as part of its spiritual mobilization activities ahead of the celebrations.

Namugongo 3rd June –is always A Worldwide Pilgrimage Event

Every 3rd June, Uganda hosts one of the largest faith gatherings in Africa at the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine. What started as a national remembrance of the Uganda Martyrs has evolved into a global pilgrimage, attracting believers from across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Pilgrims travel on foot, by bus, and by air to attend the celebrations. Many walk for days and even weeks as part of their spiritual journey. The event is known for unity, prayer, cultural exchange, and deep reflection.

Approximate Attendance

* Uganda pilgrims: 1.5 – 2 million people
* Regional pilgrims (East Africa): 200,000 – 400,000
* International visitors: 10,000 – 20,000
* Total estimated attendance: 2 to 2.5 million people annually

The celebrations include mass prayers, choirs, candle lighting, cultural interactions, and community support along pilgrimage routes. Because of its size and significance, Namugongo on 3rd June is now recognized as *one of the world’s major Christian pilgrimage events*, comparable in spirit to other global faith gatherings.

It remains a powerful symbol of faith, unity, and hope — bringing the world together in Uganda every year.

During his General Audience, Pope Leo XIV reflects on the eschatological dimension of the Church as presented in Lumen gentium, recalling that Christ entrusted the Church with the mission of guiding the faithful towards salvation. In this light, he stressed that the Church has also been “invested with the mission of speaking clearly to reject everything that mortifies life and prevents its development,” and to “denounce evil in all its forms.”
