TOPIC: PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

MEMORISE
“Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High.” - (Psalm 50:14)

READ: Psalm 100:1-5 (KJV)

1 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.

2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

PRAYERS

1. Thank You, Lord, for the gift of salvation through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for saving me and bringing me into Your light.

2. Thank You, Lord, for forgiving my sins. Thank You for always having mercy on me even though I don't deserve it.

3. Thank You, Lord, for Your unconditional love towards me. Even when I am unfaithful, You still remain faithful to me.

4. Thank You, Lord, for all Your promises to me. Thank You because I know that they will surely come to pass, in Jesus' name.

5. Thank You, Lord, because my future is secure in You. Thank You because I know that You will bring me to an expected end according to Your will, in Jesus' name.

6. Thank You, Lord, for my family members, friends, brethren in my local assembly, and everyone in my community. I'm truly grateful for the gift of relationships.

7. Thank You, Lord, for providing me with food, shelter, and all my basic needs daily. It is because of You that I am alive, and I am truly grateful.

8. Thank you, Lord, for delivering me from the forces of darkness. You protect me from evil daily, and I am truly grateful.

9. Thank You, Lord, for the challenges and trials I have faced in the past. Lord, I know that all things work together for my good, and I am grateful because You always give me victory.

10. Thank You, Lord, for every open door and opportunity that You have brought my way. You cause me to prosper, and I am truly grateful.

11. Thank You, Lord, for the ministry of Your word that comes to me through various anointed vessels, including this devotional. I am truly grateful for the growth and richness that Your word has brought into my life.

12. Your personal thanksgiving to the Lord.

TOPIC: THE CURRENT DISPENSATION

MEMORISE
“He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” - (John 16:14)

READ: John 14:16-18 (KJV)

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

MESSAGE

Yesterday, I mentioned that during the dispensation of the Father in the Old Testament, people got immediate judgment for their sins. The word 'dispensation' in this context means regime. The regime of God the Father on the earth was from the beginning to the day of Pentecost. The regime of the Son will be for a thousand years (Revelation 20:1-4). There will be absolute peace during that period because the Prince of Peace will be in charge. Right now, however, we are in the regime of the Holy Spirit, which started on the day of Pentecost and is still on to date.

To prosper in a particular regime, you must understand and obey the people in charge. The One who is currently in charge of the affairs of men is the Holy Spirit. Therefore, to succeed in all things, you must know the Holy Spirit and be intimate with Him. Being intimate with the Holy Spirit does not mean that you are downgrading or ignoring the Son or the Father. In today's memory verse, Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will glorify Him and show us things concerning Him. Once you become intimate with the Holy Spirit, you will praise God the Father the way you should, glorify the Son the right way, pray the right way, and study God's word the right way. When you become a friend of the Holy Spirit, you have automatically become a friend of the Trinity. You can become intimate with the Holy Spirit by speaking His language often and asking Him to fill you.

It is important to note that being able to perform miracles is not evidence that a fellow is intimate with the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:16-17 says that the flesh and the spirit are always in constant battle against each other. A fellow has become intimate with the Holy Spirit when he or she no longer walks in the flesh but according to the dictates of the Spirit. The people around such a fellow will testify to it when they start seeing the fruit of the Spirit at work in him or her. Jesus said in Matthew 7:16-20 that you will know a tree by the kind of fruit it produces. If the Holy Spirit is indeed your friend, you will produce good fruits that confirm your intimacy with Him.

Beloved, cultivate an intimate fellowship with the Holy Spirit; He will protect and preserve you. He will also ensure that you prosper in all that you do.

REFLECTION
Are you intimate with the Holy Spirit?

HYMN 27 - WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear;
what a privilege to carry
Ev'rything to God in prayer. Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear- All because we do not carry Ev'rything to God in prayer.

2. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged, Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a Friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our ev'ry weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge, Take it to the Lord in prayer. Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer. In His arms He'll take and shield thee, Thou wilt find a solace there.

TOPIC: THE TRINITY

MEMORISE
“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.” - (2 Corinthians 13:14)

READ: 1 John 5:5-8 (KJV)

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

MESSAGE

Many people find it difficult to understand the concept of the Trinity. The Bible says in (1 John 5:7) that the Father, the Word - Jesus according to John 1:14 - and the Holy Ghost are one. They are one, yet they are three distinct entities. I'll explain it this way: I am one man called Adeboye, but I can express myself differently in different situations. For example, if my wife breaks a ceramic plate, I will be gentle Adeboye; I will speak gently to her and ensure that she is fine. However, if it is my son, I could be furious Adeboye because I might be angry with him for being careless. I am the same person, but I'll show different sides of myself depending on what is needed in different situations.

God is one. However, He chooses to express Himself in three different forms. Water can be in liquid, gas (steam), or solid form (ice) based on changes in its temperature. In the same vein, God is one God, and He chooses to express Himself as the Holy Spirit when needed, the Word when needed, and the Father when needed. One expression is not less God than the other, just as ice or steam is not less water than its liquid form.

God the Father is the side of God that is fatherly. However, just like Adeboye the father, which I described in the first paragraph, He can be strict in this form. During the dispensation of the Father in the Old Testament, people got immediate judgment for their sins. God the Son, who is Jesus Christ, came in the flesh, so as Hebrews 4:15 says, He has feelings just like us, and He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He is the most relatable to us as He has gone through the temptations we are currently going through, and He advocates for us with the Father (1 John 2:1). God the Spirit is the creative side of God. He is the One who lives in you to do the things that were otherwise impossible to you (Romans 8:11, Philippians 4:13, (1 Corinthians 3:16), (1 John 2:27), John 14:26).

Beloved, knowing the Trinity will empower you to live above limitations. Also, to enjoy God's fullness, you need to know Him as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I pray that you will experience the fullness of the Godhead in your life, in Jesus' name.

KEY POINT
Knowing the Trinity will help you to enjoy the fullness of God and empower you to live above limitations.

TOPIC: GODLY COUNSEL

MEMORISE
“Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.” - (Proverbs 19:20)

READ: Exodus 18:13-26 (KJV)

13 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.

14 And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?

15 And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:

16 When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.

17 And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.

18 Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.

19 Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:

20 And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.

21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

22 And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.

23 If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.

24 So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.

25 And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

26 And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.

MESSAGE

In (2 Kings 5:1-14), Naaman, a commander in the Syrian army, came to Elisha because he needed healing from leprosy. The prophet instructed him to do something he felt was way below his status - he was to dip himself seven times in River Jordan, a river he considered to be way below other prestigious rivers in his home country. Angrily, Naaman rejected Elisha's instruction and was already on his way back to Syria when one of his servants counselled him to obey the prophet's instructions. Thank God he heeded his servant's counsel and did as Elisha had instructed. He was cured of his leprosy immediately, and his skin became like that of a newborn. If he had rejected his servant's simple advice, he would have had to live the rest of his life as a l***r. The greatest miracle of your life might be tied to hearing and obeying godly counsel. It is important to never ignore godly counsel, no matter the age or status of the person or people giving the counsel.

Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. (Proverbs 11:14)

In today's Bible reading, Jethro travelled to the wilderness to visit Moses, his son-in-law. During his visit, he observed how Moses attended to every single issue that arose in the camp of the Israelites all by himself from morning to night, such that at the end of every day, he was always exhausted. After making this observation, Jethro counselled Moses on what to do. He told him to choose rulers of different ranks from among the people who could also judge matters that arose within the camp. Although Jethro didn't have the burning bush experience that Moses had, Moses listened to him and received God's counsel through him.

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. (James 4:6)

Humility or meekness is an ingredient for receiving God's grace. You need a meek heart to properly discern when God is speaking through someone and receive what He has to say to you through them. Moses was known as the meekest man on earth (Numbers 12:3), and his meekness was what made him able to receive counsel from people who seemed not to have attained his spiritual height and influence. No matter how high you get, God wants you to remain meek. Ask God for a meek heart to receive His counsel through whatever vessel or method He chooses to use.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please give me a meek heart so that I can receive Your counsel through whatever vessel or method You choose to use to speak, in Jesus' name.

TOPIC: SAY TO THIS MOUNTAIN

MEMORISE
“For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” - (Mark 11:23)

READ: Genesis 1:1-3 (KJV)

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

MESSAGE

God created the world by speaking it into existence, as we see in today's Bible reading. The earth was in a terrible shape; it was void and covered in darkness. Amid this chaos, God called forth light to shine out of the darkness, and His creative work began. Hebrews 11:3 says, "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear."

Everything that we see was created by the power of God's word. There is creative power in the word of God. This is why, as a child of God, when challenges come your way, you do not complain. Rather than complain, you should put the word of God on your lips and speak His will into existence. No matter the kind of obstacles that are hindering God's will from being manifested in your life, He wants you to speak and command them to move out of the way.

Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it. (Zechariah 4:7)

The authority to speak to mountains is not exclusively for ministers of God. Rather, it is for every genuine child of God. This means that, if you are a child of God and you command the mountains that are contrary to God's will in your life to disappear in Jesus' name, they will obey. The Bible says in Philippians 2:9-10 that at the mention of the name of Jesus, every knee in heaven, on earth, or underneath the earth, should bow.

Some Christians speak to their mountains, but they say the wrong things. Instead of commanding a mountain to be removed, they plead with it for mercy or complain about it. When God says, 'Speak to the mountain', He wants you to address it squarely. However, you must get rid of doubt so you can speak authoritatively to that mountain. James 1:6 says:

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

Beloved, doubt robs believers of their authority, and you must not permit it in your heart. Believe in the absolute power of God's word without any doubt, and no mountain will be able to stand before you.

KEY POINT
Don't complain about negative situations in your life; rather, speak God's will into existence concerning them.

TOPIC: VICTORY IN HIS NAME

MEMORISE
“The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee.” - (Psalm 20:1)

READ: Psalm 118:6-12 (KJV)

6 The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

7 The Lord taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

8 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

9 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.

10 All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the Lord will I destroy them.

11 They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

12 They compassed me about like bees: they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

MESSAGE

A person's future can be influenced by his or her name. For example, Moses was so named in Exodus 2:10 because he was drawn out of water. Throughout his lifetime, he continually had encounters with water. God used him to perform several miracles with water, including: changing water to blood (Exodus 7:20), parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21), turning bitter water to sweet water (Exodus 15), and bringing water out of the rock (Exodus 17).

Names are important; this is why God had to change the names of some people in the Bible so that their destinies could be fulfilled. My mother told me that on her way to see a priest concerning my baptismal name, the name she had in mind was Elisha. However, by the time she got to the priest, she had forgotten the name, so she told him that she would name me Enoch. When she shared this story with me, I told her that I would keep the two names - Elisha, who had a double portion of the anointing, and Enoch, the man who walked with God.

The names people are called are important to their destinies, but there is a name that is greater than all names, and that name is JESUS. In Philippians 2:9-11, the Bible says, "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

In Psalm 118:10-13, David revealed the secret to his victory. He said that when the nations compassed him about, he destroyed them in the name of the Lord. He understood the power in the name of the Lord.

Beloved, is there anything troubling you as a child of God? Does it have a name? If it does, I congratulate you because you have just defeated it. As long as it has a name, there is a name above it. Even if doctors can't find a name for anything that might be troubling you medically and they say that all they can see from their diagnosis is 'nothing', that is still a name, and when you trust in the name of the Lord, you will always be victorious. Call on the name of the Lord today, and He will give you victory over anything that is troubling you.

REFLECTION
Do you have absolute trust in the name of Jesus?

TOPIC: SHINE THE LIGHT

MEMORISE
“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.” - (Matthew 5:15)

READ: Matthew 18:23-35 (KJV)

23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.

24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.

25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.

28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.

29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.

32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

MESSAGE

Every true child of God is a shining light. You are the light of the world, and Matthew 5:16 says, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Light has one clear duty: shining. This means that anything that stops light from shining is its enemy. As a child of God, anything that stops you from shining is your enemy, and you must deal with it.

Anything that allows darkness to gain the upper hand over light in a believer's life is an enemy. In today's memory verse, Jesus identified an object that can keep our light from shining and allow darkness to rule over light - a bushel. A bushel is typically a wooden bucket that was used for measuring dry goods such as peas or grains in the past. If someone lights a lamp in a dark room and puts it under a bushel, it will be impossible to tell that there is light anywhere in that room.

One of the most dangerous bushels that has hidden the light of many believers is unforgiveness. The dangerous thing about unforgiveness is that it comes as just one bushel, but it multiplies itself into many other bushels that cover a believer's light and keep it from shining. Unforgiveness always comes with bitterness, grudges, anger, and resentment. When someone offends you and you decide not to forgive the person, before long, you will find yourself resenting the person and refusing to speak amicably with him or her. Unforgiveness also hinders prayers from getting answered.

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. (Mark 11:25-26)

Beloved, don't toy with unforgiveness; it hides a person's light and plunges the unforgiving person into darkness. When Jesus told the parable of the unforgiving servant in today's Bible reading, He revealed the end of those who do not forgive - they are handed over to tormentors.

Have you been hiding your light under the bushel of unforgiveness? It is time to kick it away and let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16). I pray that God will be glorified through your words and actions, in Jesus' name.

KEY POINT
Unforgiveness is dangerous; don't let it dim your light.

I asked her, "Darling, when do you need the money? Today or now?" She asked, "What's the difference?" I then told her that there is a lot of difference between today and now. She then replied, "We need the money today." I told her, "In that case, you can go. When I have the money, I will give it to you." At the time she came, I didn't have any money with me, but I knew that there is a God in heaven who is my hiding place. I can always run to Him when there is trouble.

When my wife left, I turned to my Lord, "The people have come. They are Your people, and You can't allow them to starve." Not long after, a man who was not a member of the church drove into the Redemption Camp (now Redemption City) and came to see me. He was just passing by and saw a large crowd coming into the camp. He was curious, so he asked, "What is going on here?" I told him we were having our annual convention. He replied, "Beautiful! Next year, I will be part of it." He then put his hand in his pocket, brought out an envelope, and said, "In the meantime, let me support the church with this token." I prayed for him, and he left. When I opened the envelope, I saw that it contained 1,000 naira. I said to myself, "Thank God. We have 1,000 naira down and 4,000 naira to go." Shortly after, the leaders of the youths in the church came to me in the office and gave me an envelope. I prayed for them, and they left. I opened the envelope, and it contained 2,000 naira. Not long after, I sent for my wife and gave her the 5,000 naira she had earlier requested because God miraculously provided another 2,000 naira.

In Psalm 61, the Psalmist cried that God should lead him to a rock higher than him. God's word is the rock that hides us from trouble and shame. Beloved, you can never be stranded when you put your hope in God's word. When you put your total trust in His word, He will hide you in His secret place and ensure you are never put to shame.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please hide me in Your secret place. Let me not be put to shame, in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Luke 13 - 15

HYMN 19 - ROCK OF AGES, CLEFT FOR ME

1. Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee! Let the water and the blood, From Thy riven side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure; Cleanse me from its guilt and power.

2. Not the labours of my hands, can fulfill thy law's demands could zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow, all for sin could not atone, thou must save and thou alone.

3. Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to thy cross I cling naked, come to thee for dress, helpless, look to thee fir grace foul to the fountain fly wash me saviour or I die.

4. While I draw this fleeting breath, when my eyelids close in death, when I soar to worlds unknown, see thee on thy judgment throne, rock of ages cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee.
