The name Sir Apollo Kaggwa is no doubt well-known in Kampala. You have probably used the road named after him or remember your SST teacher telling you that he was one of the signatories of the pivotal 1900 Buganda Agreement. Well, the story of Christianity in Uganda is painted with strokes of this man's works. His literary as well as political contributions to Buganda, Uganda and Christianity cannot be ignored.

On the Unity of Christ" is a landmark 5th-century theological treatise written by St. Cyril of Alexandria that establishes the orthodox Christian doctrine of the hypostatic union—the teaching that Jesus Christ is simultaneously fully divine and fully human in one unified person.

Written in the turbulent aftermath of the Council of Ephesus (431), the text serves as a direct refutation of Nestorianism. Nestorius, the Patriarch of Constantinople, argued that Christ's divine and human natures were so distinct that they essentially formed two separate persons acting in tandem.

Cyril composed this work in the accessible format of a fictional dialogue to explain complex theology to a broader international audience.

What then is the charge they bring against us? They accuse us of profanity for entertaining lofty conceptions about the Holy Spirit. All that we, in following the teachings of the Fathers, confess as to the Spirit, they take in a sense of their own, and make it a handle against us, to denounce us for profanity. We, for instance, confess that the Holy Spirit is of the same rank as the Father and the Son, so that there is no difference between them in anything, to be thought or named, that devotion can ascribe to a Divine nature. We confess that, save His being contemplated as with peculiar attributes in regard of Person, the Holy Spirit is indeed from God, and of the Christ, according to Scripture , but that, while not to be confounded with the Father in being never originated, nor with the Son in being the Only-begotten, and while to be regarded separately in certain distinctive properties, He has in all else, as I have just said, an exact identity with them.

Our Book of the Day; "The Gospel in the Marketplace of Ideas: Paul's Mars Hill Experience for Our Pluralistic World" by Kenneth Duncan Litwak and Paul Copan

Our world is multicultural, multireligious, multiphilosophical. It ranges from fundamental monotheism to do-it-yourself spirituality to strident atheism. How can Christians engage in communicating across worldviews in this pluralistic and often relativistic society? When Paul visited Athens, he found an equally multicultural and multireligious setting. From Jews to Gentiles, elite to poor, slaves to slave owners, from olive-skinned Gentiles to dark-skinned Ethiopians―the Greco-Roman world was a dynamic mix. Religious practices were also wide and varied, with the imperial cult of emperor worship being the most prominent. Many also frequented the temples for the traditional Greek pantheon, and participated in the secret rituals of the mystery religions.Seeking to embolden the church's witness in today's society, philosopher Paul Copan and New Testament scholar Kenneth Litwak show how Paul's speech to the Athenians (found in Acts 17) provides a practical model for Christians today. They uncover the cultural and religious background of this key episode in the apostle?s career and they encourage believers to winsomely challenge the idols of our time to point contemporary Athenians to Christ.
