My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
I greet you in the merciful name of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is the risen Lord that we seek to share with you this moment. We gather here today at a time when being a Christian has more question marks than answers. A situation that has led so many Christians to desist from standing up for Christ when need be. The challenge that stares at us this moment is not our lack of belief in God, but it is that of living our lives as if God does not exist. No wonder our churches are full to the brim every Sunday, but the quality of our moral lives is in question. There is a dichotomy between what we are in church and what we are outside church, such that the values we are meant to embrace remain artificial thereby making us superficial Christians.
The risen Lord challenges us to listen, reflect and emulate our reflections both in our words and deeds, and finally share it with the world. Unfortunately, many of us remain at the listening level, without venturing into the encounter level. Unless we encounter Him, we can never be part of Him and if we can never be part of Him, then we can never be with Him in heaven. It is only when we encounter him that we realize how much he loves us and how much he invites us to take that love to the world. In doing that, we shall be growing in holiness, which is our main vocation as Christians. For God did not call us to impurity, but holiness (1stThes 4:7), therefore we should not love the world, but become a positive influence in the world. So we are called to be the light in the darkness, which tends to offer a false teaching on the norms of behavior of a Christian. Therefore, every Christian is invited to be salt into the world, giving the world that taste of Christian values.
The question we may ask ourselves is: am I salt on earth? Implying, what difference does my Christian life bring in my family, at my workplace, in my social life and the entire society? When was the last time I stood up and shared with people about Christ? How often have I shied away from explaining to others my Christian values? When was the last time I gathered my children into prayer at home? What impact does the word of God got in my life and that of my family?
In conclusion I would like to remind you that the freedom is in Christ, and Christ can only get us to heaven. So we have the obligation to tell the world about Christ as the way, the truth and the life. May His efforts to get us to Heaven bear fruits in the hearts of all of us gathered here. For apart from Christ we are lost, for He alone has the words of eternal life. If not you who? If not now when? If not here where? If not for the glory of God why?
“God our father thank you for creating and saving me, I do pray that you help me to everyday be docile to your holy spirit as it guides and leads me to you the origin and destiny of my life. Help me that I may learn not to be selfish with what you have enriched me with, but that I may tell the whole world about your love that endures forever through Christ our Lord AMEN.”
