FOCUS Mulago Child Project

FOCUS Mulago Child Project http://focusuganda.org/ FOCUS supports children from the Mulago-Kalerwe slum community in Kampala, Uganda, East Africa.

These children are supported financially through individual sponsorship so that they have the opportunity to attend school and also be provided with their basic needs. Through various educational programs, FOCUS exposes these children to opportunities that will help them develop spiritually, physically, socially, and economically. The FOCUS: Mulago Child Development Project is committed to making a holistic impact on the slum community by using the child as the entry point in the community.

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SPONSORS

'We were attracted to the project because it was created by Ugandans for Ugandans. We liked the philology, register one child from a family, believing that the child will influence the whole family. Provide school tuition and uniforms, Saturday programs for a place to play, school help, Bible classes, life skills, nutrition, hygiene, HIV education, emotional health, games and a nutritious lunch including fruit and sometimes meat. Celebrate achievements. Annual days in camp on Lake Victoria—a great delight. Periodically they are given bars of soap.

We eagerly support the vision and service of the college students and staff and to encourage friends to sponsor a child.

SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T PAY IT BACK, SO YOU JUST PAY IT FORWARD -Randy Pausch

“I discovered that children have the desire and willingness to learn in the lockdown period and yet they lacked adults who have the time to help. I have a desire of seeing all children excel in Math. I have been an excellent Mathematics student and I would like to be
a stepping stone for others to excel in it too.” Valentine

Thank you Valentine Kabugo for paying it forward in these uncertain times

Valentine is one of the older students in the project. He is a 3rd year student at Makerere University.

THANK YOU

The 26th of May 2020 saw 289 families receiving food items. This was as a result of your giving towards COVID relief. The recipients included all child supported families and 100 community members who were finding it hard to place food on their table. Susanne one of community members shares her story.

“I thank FOCUS for thinking about us too. I am a single mother. I was abandoned by my husband two years ago. I wash clothes for people for a living but due to the lockdown business, ‘customers’ are home washing for themselves. My children collect scrap metal which they sell and fetch water for people for us to survive. A village Health Team Worker invited me to FOCUS and I did not know what to expect. I am so thankful. Our last bar of soap was given to us by a neighbor. I have received 5Kgs of maize flour, 3kgs of beans, 3 kgs of rice, I liter of cooking oil and a 1kg bar of soap!”

Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors for still sharing what you have during this uncertain season

.
Three months ago one of the families supported by the program came to ask for a meal but walked away with a means to provide food on the table with only $43.
With this money, the family started selling Sweets and Biscuits. Every day they make a profit of $1.5. To them these means a lot in their life's. .
