WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A MEMBER OF HOWAP
HOWAP encourages each person to become accountable through our discipleship process. We recognize that there is a big difference between "attendees" and "members". A member is not a member because they simply attend HOWAP. A member is a member when they become committed to Christ, they bear the fruit of the Spirit in their life and are in fellowship within our body. We live in an age where very few want to be committed to anything ... school ... a relationship ... our country. This attitude has even produced a generation of "church shoppers & hoppers.” Membership in a church means one is committed to the vision of the church and is actively involved in the discipleship process of the church. They come to give back to God and serve Him through a local church body. Just as every team must have a roster. Every school must have an enrollment. Every army has an enlistment. Membership identifies our family of believers and who can be counted on in our attempt to fulfill our purpose. The New Testament places a major emphasis on the need for Christians to be accountable to each other for spiritual growth. It’s tough to be accountable when you're not committed to any specific church family. WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME AS A MEMBER? At HOWAP, we never ask our members to do more than the Bible clearly teaches. We only encourage our members to do what the Bible expects every Christian to do. As a person attends Elevate class they are slowly “put into the discipleship process”.
• They are put into a Life group.
• When they get a permanent Life group, the leader of that cell group becomes their “discipler” whom they personally meet with from time to time.
• They are encouraged to attend the Foundation Classes.
• They are encouraged to join a ministry.
• They are encouraged to attend Prayer Meetings, Sunday and Weekly LIW classes and other church activities as to ground them in their faith.
• They are encouraged to attend a 3-day “Encounter Camp”. In HOWAP we distinguish between three groups of people who attend our church:
1) Attendees: People who attend only the Sunday service.
2) Members
1. Attend weekly services.
2. Are accountable to someone.
3. Give in tithes and offerings.
4. Attend a cell group.
5. Live a lifestyle that adheres to scripture.
3) Leaders: A person is considered a leader in HOWAP when adheres to all the requirements of a member as well as:
1. Is involved in a ministry.
2. Attends prayer meetings, bible classes and leadership meetings
