Duane served as a missionary in Uganda for many years even under bishop McCauley doing parish work at Butiiti, teaching sciences at St. Mary’s Seminary, chaplaincy and bursar at Kinyamasika Teacher Training College, retreat ministry at Saaka, and as diocesan treasurer for the Fort Portal Diocese. Later, he returned in various capacities to serve at the Holy Cross Novitiate in Fort Portal, assisted in parish ministry, and continued to nurture vocations and formation of novices before he returned to the U.S. to take up other ministries. Today we celebrate the priestly ordination anniversary of Servant of God Vincent McCauley, C.S.C.! Ordained a Holy Cross priest in 1934, he served as a missionary in Bangladesh for nearly 10 years before the majority of his mission work began in Uganda from 1958-1979.

| Today we celebrate the birthday of Servant of God Vincent McCauley, C.S.C.! Born in 1906, he first encountered the Congregation of Holy Cross when a Holy Cross priest gave a mission appeal at his home parish. This inspired him to join the Congregation and serve as a missionary to the Ugandan people for nearly 30 years.

| 66 years ago today, Servant of God Vincent McCauley, C.S.C., arrived in Uganda! He was the religious superior of the mission in Entebbe. He was accompanied by three newly ordained priests, and their mission was to begin building the local Church through establishing parishes and schools.

| 63 years ago today, Servant of God Vincent McCauley was appointed the first bishop of the Diocese of Fort Portal, Uganda.

In his ten years in this position, he organized the diocese and served its people through the fostering of educational institutions and the promotion of the Vatican II church. He also served the Ugandan church through his work with the Uganda Episcopal Conference, and most prominently through his supervision of the design and construction of the Gaba National Seminary in Kampala.
