The Source church - Uganda

The Source church - Uganda A multicultural church sending & sourcing mission from Uganda, the source of the Nile. For God's glory, for our good, and for blessing of the nations.

We are an internationally minded church growing together, discipling each other, and sourcing mission from Uganda, the source of the Nile. We seek to reproduce leaders rather than our church, and we work collaboratively with other churches to build a missions movement from Uganda to the world. We do this because there are more Anglicans in Africa than there are in England, and more Mennonites in A

frica than in all of North America. While Europe's population is sinking and its economy is stagnating, Africa's population and economy are growing faster than anywhere else in the world. Over the past century, the growth of the church in Africa is one of the most remarkable (and under-appreciated) stories of God growing His church that the world has ever seen: at the dawn of the 20th century, two-thirds of world Christians lived in Europe. Over the next 100 years, however, the number of Christians in Africa grew from 10 million to
360 million. Not since the early church has the world seen God at work like that. Today, the tables have flipped: fully two-thirds of all Christians in the world today live in the Global South. The massive growth of the church in the Global South was, in large measure, sparked by the great missionary movement from Europe and North America of the 19th and early 20th century. When William Carey launched what some call "the great missionary century", he did so from a poor country called England. He was under resourced, under educated, and ignored by the powerful state church in England. But his God-given vision launched a great commission movement that changed the face of the earth ( and eternity! ). And how the earth has changed! When William Carey left for India, England was a smaller and poorer country than Uganda is today. Today, the church in Uganda is bothlarge and in many ways healthy, standing strong for the authority of scripture against the relativism in parts of the Western church. Ugandans received the gospel with unprecedented eagerness when the first missionary arrived in 1882. And they have been receiving ever since. Receiving missionaries, receiving short-term teams, receiving houses and whole church buildings, receiving clothes and food from western Christians. But the faith Uganda has received is a giving and going faith, a faith that finds its source in a missionary God who gave us His Son and inspired generations of missionaries to go to distant places like Uganda. Today, the flow of missionaries from "mother" churches in Europe and North America has declined or is in reverse. And while the need for the gospel in places North – places like North Africa, the Middle East, and post-Christian Europe – has never been greater, it seems that the West has had their God-appointed missions day. Now, it is Africa ’ s turn. Uganda is the source of the Nile, which for thousands of years has been a source of life as this mighty river flows north. But these lands also need Living Water as well, the water from which many in Uganda have drunk deeply. The church in Africa has so much to give, and the West is passing the baton to a generous and hospitable people. It ’ s time to (re)source mission. From Uganda.

Nothing about Christmas makes sense. No madman could conceive of an idea this crazy, no script-writer could pen a plot this twisted.

At first glance, Christmas might look like a divine comedy: the Lord of heavenly armies, now a human newborn, is forced with his family to flee for his life from a two-bit, tin-pot dictator named Herod? That’s kinda hilarious!

But dig deeper, and Christmas takes a dark turn. An innocent baby is born whose sole purpose in life is to suffer a cruel, pre-ordained death? That’s not funny… that’s outrageous, offensive!

What could possibly turn such a cruel, cosmic joke into good news?
The answer is both simple and staggering. In three little words, the scriptures offer a rationale for this divine atrocity: “God is love.”

God is love. In the beginning, out of love, to create more love, God created a universe filled with divine love. And because love is a choice, God’s universe offered us just that: a choice. Lucifer, our spiritual father, chose rebellion. Adam, our human father, chose the same. They reject their Father’s love.

The shadow fell across the world, and death stalked the living.

Into this unfolding nightmare, a baby boy was born. Love took on flesh.

And because love requires sacrifice, God’s son offered himself as the sacrifice, that “whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

A love story that begins with betrayal and blood ends with the sacrificial lamb, the Son of God, sitting on the throne in the new Jerusalem, a city which “does not need the sun... for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp."

The Christmas story is still crazy, still twisted, but now… it’s crazy beautiful.

God is Love, come to us. Emmanuel, God with us. Crazy beautiful! GOOD NEWS OF GREAT JOY!

Our Messiah is born, HALLELUJAH!

What birds teach us! Plus, we learned a new word: Ornitheology! (That's the study of birds + theology)
Our latest Topic Sunday @ The Source. Ruth Hersey, our resident 'bird watcher' leads us to reflect on God and the birds God made.
Here are 3 lessons we can learn from birds:
1. Have faith! God will take care of us as He cares for the birds
2. Follow the paths God has for us (like repentance from our sins) like the birds do
3. God shelters us under His wings and keeps us safe, just like the birds care for their babies

Door closed in your face? Could be GOD, not Devil! Why? A greater good in a diff direction.
In Acts 16, God shut doors in the face of Paul, Timothy, and Silas. God's shut doors force us into division, disappointments, delays, and detours. But our heartache is used by God to guide us towards His greater good. TRUST HIM! HE WILL DO IT

As a church, we prioritize loving our neighbor before ourselves. So when we spent more than expected on our church Christmas party, I was afraid that our offering for our Christmas outreach would be less than the cost of our party. I should not have worried! All our members gave so generously and we were able to give twice as much to bless our neighbors - from the poor to the witch doctors down by the lake - with the love God showed us at Christmas.
