Title: Behold, the Lamb of God

Verse: John 1:29
The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Interpretation:
John the Baptist was the forerunner of the Messiah and his responsibility was to introduce Jesus Christ to the world.
The verse above uses the fourth of John's seven names for Jesus, "The Lamb of God." Lambs were required as a yearly sacrifice for all Jewish families. This was for the celebration of Passover. This holiday looked back to the days of Moses, when lambs' blood covered the doors of Israel, and allowed God's judgment to "pass over" them. Isaiah predicted that the Messiah would "bear the sins of many." The connection to Passover is the primary reason Jesus is referred to as "The Lamb of God."

Title: Passover to Purify Themselves

Verse: John 11:55
Now the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the Passover to purify themselves.

Interpretation:
In much of the Old Testament we learn that the Lord required His people to consecrate themselves before He visited them. To this day, whenever the Lord visits His people, He requires them to first consecrate themselves.
During the festivals of the Passover, Jewish men who lived within a certain distance were obligated to come into the city to observe certain rites. Before the commencement of the feast they had to prepare some sacrifices and ceremonies that would make them ready to eat the Passover.
When we expect to meet God, we must solemnly prepare. Man cannot alter the purposes of God: Jesus still orders all things for His own glory and the salvation of His people.

Title: The Feast of the Passover

Verse: Exodus 34:25
“You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread, nor is the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover to be left over until morning.

Interpretation:
Exodus 12:1-24 outlines the instructions on how the Israelites were to carry out the Passover. We learn that they were to roast the meat over a fire along with bitter herbs and whatever was left of the meat was to be burned because the Lord commanded that none of the meat be left until the next morning.
Leaven in the Passover represented impurity and sin so there was to be no leavened bread eaten or offered during Passover. The sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover was not to be left over until morning but was all to be eaten that night or burned. This was a remembrance of the requirement for the first Passover meal, which was eaten in haste before the Israelites left Egypt the morning after the Passover.

Title: Celebrate the Passover

Verse: Numbers 9:13
But if anyone who is ceremonially clean and not on a journey fails to celebrate the Passover, they must be cut off from their people for not presenting the Lord’s offering at the appointed time. They will bear the consequences of their sin.

Interpretation:
Before leaving Sinai, Israel kept the Passover in remembrance of the deliverance from Egypt - all Israelites were to keep the Passover. The night before they left Egypt for the Promised Land the Lord required of them to partake of the Holy Communion. This was guided by instructions in Exodus 12:1-24, which guide is related to the verse above. The Passover was the consecration that the Lord required of them before they were ushered into the Promised Land.

Title: Before I Suffer

Verse: Luke 22:15
And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

Interpretation:
Passover means transitioning from one level to another. Before Christ was crucified on the cross, He gathered His disciples to eat of the Holy Communion. On the night of the Last Supper Passover, Jesus and the disciples took the first communion and Jesus told them to “do this in remembrance of me.”
Christ purposed to redeem a lost world by His blood, and ardently longed for the time in which He was to offer Himself up. Such love did Jesus bear to the human race.

Title: Where Your Treasure Is

Verse: Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Interpretation:
The principle of tithing is a heart issue. The Lord is not interested in the tenth of our increase but is rather interested in our hearts. In this verse, Jesus shares His perspective on money and its place in the hearts of God's people. Our inner thoughts and motivations are part of righteousness. God, and His will, are what matter, not the opinions of other people. Jesus teaches us not to stockpile temporary treasure on earth. Rather, we should be working towards godly goals - ''storing up'' rewards in heaven with choices driven by sincere devotion to God.
Where we place our treasure indicates the real priority of our hearts. Those who live for worldly wealth live in inner darkness. Only one thing can be truly primary in a person's life. Each person must choose whether to serve God, or their own selfish interests.

Title: Bring to the Lord an Offering

Verse: Exodus 35:5
From what you have, take an offering for the Lord. Everyone who is willing is to bring to the Lord an offering of gold, silver and bronze;

Interpretation:
The LORD expects that the tithe that is given to Him is meant to glorify His name. Many times we give offerings that are not pleasing to the Lord and accompany these with excuses for our actions. In this verse the Lord tests the love and obedience of the Israelites according to how He expected them to present their offerings, which were supposed to be the best of their wealth. They needed tools, resources, gold, silver, and bronze for the construction of the tabernacle and so God said that whoever is of a generous heart, let him bring gold, silver, and bronze.
Later, in the New Testament, Paul teaches that God delights in gifts that are given out of generosity rather than duress or ambition.

Title: Present a Tenth

Verse: Numbers 18:26
“Speak to the Levites and say to them: ‘When you receive from the Israelites the tithe I give you as your inheritance, you must present a tenth of that tithe as the Lord’s offering.

Interpretation:
Being the clan of priests, the inheritance of the Levites was supposed to be given to them by God since they were bound to ministering to His people. So God commanded His people to give a tithe for the support of the Levites. After the Levites received the tithe, they in turn took a contribution from this tithe and gave it to the Lord.
Inherent in being anyone of God’s people was recognizing that everything belongs to the Lord, so the first thing we do with what He entrusts to us is to offer it to Him in surrender.
The principle of tithing does not exclude the priests. There are also expected to tithe to their spiritual coverage.

Title: Gives Freely

Verse: Proverbs 11:24
One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.

Interpretation:
The world has set false standards of maintaining wealth. We have been led to believe that one should withhold what they have, and yet even whatever they withhold is not enough to sustain them. On the contrary, the generous multiply automatically.
When we obey the principles of God we benefit more from them. I want to encourage you to be intentional in practicing the principles of God by faith; then watch the results overwhelm you.
Like casting the seed across the field yields an abundance of corn, God blesses generosity by increasing what we have. He replenishes our supply through our acts of giving. But, when we hold on to everything and store it for ourselves, we miss the point of God’s provision and the joy that comes through generosity.

Title: A Tithe of Everything

Verse: Leviticus 27:30
“‘A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.

Interpretation:
The LORD required of every Israelite to present a tenth of their harvest to Him. As a result of this act of obedience the Lord blessed them.
One of the reasons that we struggle financially is that we ‘over-reason’ everything. This is the biggest hindrance to receiving God’s blessings. We always think that we are presenting tithe to mere man instead of looking at the priest as a servant of God.
Designating a tenth of one's harvest for the Lord was a reminder that everything ultimately belongs to Him. This remains true for those of us who are not farmers. The produce of our lives - our income, our accomplishments, our relationships, our children - belongs to God, even as we belong completely to Him. Tithing can help us remember whose we are and whose stuff we have been given in trust. The point is not to give God His tenth so that we can do whatever we wish with the other ninety-percent. Rather, through tithing we signify that all that we have and all that we are belong to God.
