Three Ordained in Holy Orders at All Saints’ Cathedral Kampala

Nakasero —The Sanctuary was filled with joy and praise during the service in which three clergy were ordained in Holy Orders by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, who is also the Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala, The Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, assisted by the Assistant Bishop, Rt. Rev. Jackson Fredrick Baalwa.

During the service, Amai Sadrack was ordained a Deacon, while Rev. Deacon Sandra Musenero and Rev. Deacon Ben Odongo were ordained priests.

In his homily, the Rev. Canon Jonathan Kisawuzi, former Dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, who was the retreat leader, urged the new ministers to remain faithful and committed to the calling they have received.

“The newly ordained, and all of us-are on a journey which some have already travelled, others are still on, and others will join later; the journey is salvation. The question we must always ask is: what is our final destination?” he said.

Drawing from Psalm 1, he urged the clergy to resist every temptation to walk in the counsel of the wicked and instead remain anchored in Scripture and accountable to God.

He listed five dangers that can hinder one’s ministry journey: disappointment, indifference, ignorance, disobedience, and willful unconfessed sin, cautioning that unconfessed sin “remains devastating to the Church.”

Canon Kisawuzi reminded the newly ordained that God is faithful to those He calls. “He qualifies those He calls. He will always go before and after you if you trust and obey Him,” he said, encouraging them to remain connected to Christ through prayer, fellowship, and the Scriptures.

The preacher called on the clergy to embrace the spirit of Matthew 5:7–8 by living mercifully, maintaining purity of heart, and being peacemakers in their ministries and communities.

During the service, seven clergy took the Canonical oath of the Diocese of Kampala before the Diocesan Chancellor, Counsel Diana Angwech. These included Rev. Joseph Odiya, Rev. Patrick Balasa, Rev. Ellon Kebirungi, Rev. Canon Dr. Duncans Mugumya, Rev. Florence Tayebwa Muhwezi, Rev. Canon Simon Peter Dembe Lya Yesu, and Rev. Innocent Muhwezi.

Archbishop Kaziimba appealed to Christians to respect, support, and pray for the newly ordained ministers. “Respect those who are ordained Deacon and made priests and hold them in high esteem and affection for the work they do. I commend them to your prayers,” he said.

He also introduced the new Archdeacons: Rev. Canon Michael Mukhwana, Archdeacon of Makerere Archdeaconry stationed at St. Paul’s, Makerere Hill; Rev. Canon Capt. David Serunjoji, Archdeacon of Ntinda Archdeaconry at St. Luke’s, Ntinda; and Rev. Emmanuel Kalagala, Archdeacon of Kisugu Archdeaconry at St. Stephen’s, Kisugu.

The Archbishop also noted that the Cathedral will no longer have the title of Provost but instead that of Dean, and that the current Provost, Rev. Canon Dr. Rebecca Nyegenye, will be the first Dean.

Among several senior clergy present was the Bishop–Elect of Busoga Diocese, Rev. Canon Prof. Grace Lubaale, who will be consecrated on Sunday, 14th December 2025, at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Bugembe. The Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Dr. Henry Majwala, Archdeacons, and clergy from across the Diocese also attended the service.

Farewell Reflections from Canon Awodi

“Unmerited favour of the Lord! From being a nobody, born in the bush, to becoming the Diocesan Secretary—it is purely the grace of God,” Canon Awodi testified during his farewell sermon.

He reminded us that God’s grace is free and qualifies everyone for salvation—whether rich, poor, or wretched. No amount of money can buy it, and no human effort can earn it.

Canon Awodi urged the congregation to respond to this grace by living as God’s workmanship—serving Him wholeheartedly and boasting only in Christ.

✨ Grace is free.
✨ Salvation is for all.
✨ Our only boast is in Christ.

May we be inspired to live fully in His service. 🙏

Rev Canon Dr. Francis Omondi Etieno Consecrated Bishop of Diocese of Galisa at All Saints' Cathedral, Nairobi

NAIROBI, May 9, 2025 — The Anglican Church of Kenya witnessed a significant spiritual event today as Rev. Canon Dr. Francis Omondi Etieno was consecrated as Bishop of Galisa at All Saints' Cathedral, Nairobi.
The ceremony was presided over by the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, The Most Rev Dr. Jackson N. Ole Sapit, alongside other Bishops.

Canon Omondi, formerly a Canon of All Saints' Cathedral, Kampala Diocese of Kampala, is widely known for his dedication to church planting, evangelism, and teaching. His ministry focuses on reaching hard-to-reach and persecuted communities, earning him recognition and respect within the Anglican community. He has also played a significant role in leading ordination retreats and participating in numerous spiritual retreats within the Diocese of Kampala.

Representing the Diocese of Kampala at the consecration were The Rt. Rev. Fredrick Jackson Baalwa, accompanied by Rev. Canon Capt. David Serunjoji, Rev. Susan Ahumuza Ameso, Rev. Shem Nsubuga, Rev. James Arinda, and Mrs. Beatrice Arinda.

The sermon at the consecration, delivered by Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Wandera, Bishop of Mumias, emphasized the theme of shepherding. Drawing from John 21-15-19, Bishop Wandera began with a profound question addressed to the Bishop-elect: "Francis, son of Etieno, do you love me? Feed my sheep." He highlighted that true shepherds are called to care, nurture, heal, and guide their flock without abusing their authority.

"God does not call us to elevate ourselves; He calls us so that we can provide. A shepherd must not frighten God’s people or misuse authority. Instead, they must lead with compassion, ensuring the flock is well-fed and protected," Bishop Wandera stated.

Canon Omondi’s consecration comes at a crucial time when the Anglican Church of Kenya continues to focus on reaching out to diverse and often underserved communities, aligning with his long-standing commitment to evangelism and discipleship.
