BREAD OF LIFE: NOURISHMENT FOR THE SOUL.
Theme: The Atoning Death of Christ.
Scripture: Isaiah 53:4-6, 1 Peter 2:24
Text:
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:4-6. 24Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:24.
Reflection:
The death of Christ is the central act of God’s redemption plan. Isaiah’s prophecy reminds us of the suffering Messiah who bore the sins of humanity. Christ was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. His death was not a result of human failure but a divine act of love and justice. Through His sacrifice, we receive forgiveness, healing, and peace with God.
The cross demonstrates the depth of God’s love and the seriousness of sin. It shows us that our salvation was purchased at a great cost—the life of the sinless Son of God. His death was not only a substitution for our punishment but also a victory over sin and death.
Example:
Imagine a courtroom where you stand guilty of a crime deserving death. As the sentence is about to be carried out, someone steps forward and takes your place. That person is Christ. He bore the punishment we deserved so that we could go free.
Life Application:
Christ’s atoning death calls us to live a life of gratitude and obedience. Reflect on the cost of your salvation and how it affects your daily decisions. Are there areas in your life where you need to surrender to His Lordship?
