An imprecatory prayer is a calling down of judgement or curse against one’s enemies or those who are enemies of God.

We see these prayers of curses or judgement all throughout Scripture. The ones found in the Psalms are the most famous (Psalms 7; 35; 58; 59; 69; 83; 109;137;139). We also see Moses ask the Lord to scatter his enemies and make them flee in fear (Num. 10:35). Deborah prays that all of God’s enemies would be destroyed (Judges 5:31). Jeremiah gets really hard core and prays for God to destroy those who are evil “with double destruction” (Jer. 17:18).

Some scholars say that even Paul used imprecations against those who did not love God. One example is found in 1 Cor. 16:22:

“If anyone has no love for the Lord, let him be accursed. Our Lord, come!”

These imprecatory prayers should not make us shrug our shoulders, saying that they are just strange passages and move on. Instead these verses should cause us to ask some hard questions like, how can it be right to wish harm and destruction on another human? It seems very malicious and vengeful instead of loving and kind.

What about Matthew 5:44 where we are told to love our enemies? And how can glory be brought to God through these kinds of prayers? Let me try and make just a few observations.

Imprecatory prayers are aimed at great injustice, not small trivial matters.

David and the others did not ask God to destroy people because they were annoying, inconvenient, or hurtful. These prayers were prayed when whole nations were being persecuted, when God’s name was being blasphemed, and when believers were being killed for their faith.

Imprecatory prayers ask God to intervene when no one else will or can.

Such calls of judgment only came when justice would not be found in this life and the innocent would go on under oppression and violence.

Imprecatory prayers show us the need for deliverance from evil and therefore the need for a savior.

A soul tie is formed when you are extyremely close to someone or something, i.e. best friends, your car that you must wash every week. A soul tie is also formed with every person you have had s*x with. Demons cause you to have ungodly soul ties.

We can form "Godly" as well as "ungodly" soul ties with our family, friends, pastors, other Christians, churches, movie stars, and rock stars and the list goes on.

The Eerdman's Bible Dictionary's definition of the soul is: the usual translation of Hebrew "nepes" and Greek "psyche" (though most translations retain considerable freedom in their renderings of these terms). As with other terms such as "body," "heart," and "spirit," "soul" does not designate a part of a human being, but rather the whole person considered from one particular aspect of its functioning. As such it represents primarily the life force of the body (Genesis 2:7) or the inner life of the person, encompassing desires and emotions.

Demons in a Christian are found in their soul - which is their mind, will and emotions (such as depression, fear, anxiety, panic, grief, mental illness, etc), and also in their bodies (such as diseases like cancer, arthritis, heart disease, high blood pressure, etc.). When a soul tie is formed, a person takes on the characteristics of the person or thing it has formed that tie with. In our experience in Deliverance, we have found that people form ungodly soul ties with movie stars from having their pictures, books, tapes, etc. One lady had a demon of addiction to alcohol and drugs, she also had problems with men and love. When praying for her the Lord impressed upon us to tell her to get rid of the picture she had of Marilyn Monroe at the head of her bed. What problems (demons) did Marilyn Monroe have - drugs, alcohol, and problems with men and love. Other people have given testimony that people who have had pictures of John Wayne took on Wayne's characteristics - walked and talked like him. You even see it in ministers. The high profile ministers on television - their understudies preach like and even their voices sound like them.

The Old Testament definition in the Strong's Concordance gives 5315 for soul as - to breathe, to be breathed upon, i.e. refreshed (as if by a current of air), breathing creature, any appetite, beast, body, breath, desire, heart, etc.

The New Testament definition in the Strong's Concordance gives 5590 for soul as - heart, life, mind, etc.

Soul ties with God: Deuteronomy 10:20 states, "You shall [reverently] fear the Lord your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and by His name and presence you shall swear." Cling or cleave in the Strong's Concordance means to cling or adhere, cleave (fast together) be joined together. We are to form a soul tie with the Lord, and this is very important for us in our daily warfare and Deliverance. We must commit ourselves to the Lord and serve Him, and as this soul tie is formed we will be able to say as Jesus said, "...I and My Father are One..."

Soul ties with Christians: Ephesians 4:16 "For because of Him the whole body (the church, in all its various parts), closely joined and firmly knit together by the joints and ligaments with which it is supplied, when each part [with power adapted to its need] is working properly [in all its functions], grows to full maturity, building itself up in love." Colossians 2:2 "[For my concern is] that their hearts may be braced (comforted, cheered, and encouraged) as they are knit together..." v 19) "and not holding fast to the Head, from Whom the entire body, supplied and knit together by means of its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God." The Godly soul ties with other Christians is normal and part of the plan of the Lord. We love each other and help each other. That is how we can fulfill the scripture, "Love thy neighbor as thyself," we become as one body and therefore need and help each other. Deliverance is a body ministry. Jesus said in Mark 16:17, "...Those that believe shall cast out demons..." Not just the pastor or certain people in the church; it is for all believers.

Soul ties with friends - I Samuel 18:1 "When David had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own life."

Soul ties with pastors or leaders - II Samuel 20:2 "So all the men of Israel withdrew from David and followed Sheba son of Bichri: but the men of Judah stayed faithfully with their king, from the Jordan to Jerusalem."

Soul ties with your husband/wife - Genesis 2:24 "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall become united and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh."

Soul ties in adultry and fornication - Genesis 34:2,3 "And when Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he seized her, lay with her, and humbled, defiled, and disgraced her. But his soul longed for and clung to Dinah daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl and spoke comfortingly to her young heart's wishes." This is just one reason to teach your children not to have s*x before marriage. Not only is it sin but you form an ungodly soul tie with that person.

Soul ties with world - Joshua 23:13 "Know with certainty that the Lord your God will not continue to drive these nations from before you; but they shall be a snare and trap to you, and a scourge in your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the Lord your God has given you."

We can form ungodly soul ties with anyone or thing. These are the soul ties that need to be broken in Jesus' Name. If a friend or person controls you then there is an ungodly soul tie - mothers with daughters, fathers with sons, pastors with congregation, bosses and employees with each other, just to name a few. Control is one of the key evidences that an ungodly soul tie has been formed. Sometimes you may not be able to see the control of the ungodly soul tie yourself. That is why we break ungodly soul ties with everyone and anyone and everything. We would rather be "safe" than "sorry." If there is not an ungodly soul tie there you have not wasted anything but a little breath. However, if there is one and you don't break it - that tie could destroy you.

One testimony we have heard is with a man that was a boy scout. When it came time to throw out the items he had kept from his youth as a scout he could not throw them away. A friend had to help him. The soul tie to the object was broken in Jesus' Name and then the person was able to see where the control was. Any "collection" that you have and you feel that you could never get rid of is a clue that an ungodly soul tie has developed. Women with pastors - the women have to sit in the front to be close to the pastor, that's just one of the clues that an ungodly soul tie have been formed. Also, we can develop ungodly soul ties with pets.

Remember that ungodly soul ties can be formed no matter how much you love the Lord and worship Him and serve Him. You can have demons, and you can have ungodly soul ties.

We must break ungodly soul ties in Jesus' name. It is very simple and easy to break these ungodly soul ties.

Sample prayer of Deliverance from ungodly soul ties:

Father, in Jesus' Name forgive me for allowing ungodly soul ties to be formed in my life. In Jesus' Name I break all ungodly soul ties I have with (name the people, places and things such as my grandparents, mother, father, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, sons, daughters, pastors, other Christians, churches, movie stars, singers, evangelists, my boss, my employee, my doctor, pet, etc).

The list can go on and on as the Lord gives you discernment, break each ungodly soul tie in Jesus' Name. After breaking the ungodly soul tie you will need to cast the demons out. Example: In Jesus' Name I command all demons of ungodly soul ties to leave me now. I command the spirit of (name the person, place or thing) to come out of me now. Keep going until you believe all demons have gone. You may have to deal with some of this everyday until you believe that you have gotten rid of all of the demons and broken all ungodly soul ties. You also, need to get rid of the articles such as pictures of movie stars, American Indian artifacts, etc.
