Passage: John 3:16.
Subject: God
Complement: Demonstrated Love
Main Idea: How God demonstrates His Love. 16a, Rom 5:8.
We learn the object of God’s love: God did not wait for the world to turn to Him before He loved it. but He loved when it was still the world.
I) Giving the best of His choice; Vs 16a, Rom 5:8.
- His only begotten Son.
This describes both the expression and the gift of God’s love. God’s love didn’t just feel for the plight of a fallen world. God did something about it, and He gave the most precious thing to give (His only begotten Son).
II) Giving the widest welcome to all to accept His choice:
- whoever believes. 16b
This describes the recipient of God’s love. God loves the world, but the world does not receive or benefit from that love until it believes in His Son, the gift that the Father gave. Believes in means much more than intellectual awareness or agreement. It means to trust in, to rely on, and to cling to.
III) Giving explanation of His choice;
- shall not perish but have eternal life. 16b
This describes the intention of God’s love. God’s love actually saves man from eternal destruction. God looks at fallen humanity, & does not want it to perish, but so in His love He extends the gift of salvation.
My Application:
You and me ought to accept, love, trust in, rely on, and cling to God's only choice.
A) Non believers should accept & confess God's choice.(Jesus Christ).
B) Believers should love, trust in, rely on & cling to God's choice.
