The Israelites had been through many struggles, unfair things happened. They made mistakes, brought trouble on themselves. They could have been sitting in self-pity, discouraged. But Isaiah said, “Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. Behold, God is doing a new thing.” The principle is, if you’re dwelling on the past, you won’t see the new thing. If you’re focused on who hurt you and what wasn’t fair, why a friend walked away, then you’ll miss your destiny. God is saying, "Forget the former things; quit dwelling on your mistakes. This is a new day."

When someone is good to your children—kind, loving, makes them feel valuable—as a parent, you would do anything for that person. They’re taking care of your child, your most precious possession. That’s the way it is with God. When you treat people with love, compassion. You make them feel valuable, attractive, worthy. You are taking care of God’s greatest treasure. You can be assured, God will take care of you. The Scripture says, “Husbands, if we don’t treat our wives right, then it will hinder our prayers.” It makes a difference how we treat people. We shouldn’t be contentious, always wanting to argue, having to be right. We shouldn't be petty, making a big deal out of little things, holding grudges, being disrespectful, saying things that we know we shouldn’t. Life is too short to live that way. When we mistreat people, we’re mistreating God’s creation. Many times, the root cause of our mistreatment is we’re focusing on the twenty percent that we don’t like. We’re magnifying their negative qualities. Reframe it. Focus on the good.

Once we turn something over to God, we need to trust that He is taking care of it and give it no more thought. God wants us to believe what He promises before we see it, so believe that God is changing you.
