Vassa is more than simply monks staying at a monastery for three months. It is a period of spiritual cultivation, discipline, learning and community support. Historically, the Buddha established the rains retreat partly because travelling during the rainy season could damage crops and small living creatures.

Today marks the start of Vassa, the sacred three-month Rains Retreat, for our monastic community in Uganda!

Following the tradition of the Buddha, our monks will remain stationed at the centre for intensive meditation, Dhamma study, and spiritual renewal.
How you can participate and make merit:

Deepen practice: Dedicate more time to daily meditation.

Keep precepts: Commit closely to moral precepts.

Offer Dana: Support the monks with food or medicine donations.

Let go: Give up a negative habit during this period.
Everyone is welcome to visit, practice meditation, and support the Sangha.

May this season bring peace and wisdom to all!

Dhamma Dissemination is the heart of UBC's mission. From Bhante Buddharakkhita's return to Uganda in 2005 with a Buddha statue and Bodhi seeds, the Centre has grown from humble teachings under a mobile tent into a spiritual home for meditation, ordination, and ethical training
