Morning Devotion
Title: A New Shepherd for God’s People
Scripture:
"Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding." — Jeremiah 3:15
Reflection:
Today is no ordinary day. It is a defining moment in the history of the Diocese of Nairobi, a day when heaven and earth align as God's people gather to seek His will in choosing a new shepherd. Since its establishment in 1964, this diocese has stood as a pillar of faith, a beacon of hope, and a testimony of God’s enduring grace.
We remember the great leaders who served faithfully and diligently—the trailblazing Archbishop Festo Olang’, who broke barriers as the first African Archbishop; Bishop Peter Njoka, who laid a firm foundation as the first bishop; and Bishop Joel Waweru, who carried the torch with unwavering dedication as the second bishop of the ACK Diocese of Nairobi . Their lives remind us that leadership in the church is not about titles or applause but about servanthood, sacrifice, and surrender to the will of God.
As we stand at this crossroad, we must pause, pray, and listen. Just as the early church sought the Holy Spirit’s guidance in selecting leaders (Acts 13:2-3), we too must seek His wisdom. For the one chosen today is not just a bishop; they are a steward of God's people, called to lead with humility, compassion, and courage.
Leadership in the church demands a heart that beats for God and hands that are ready to serve His people. It calls for a vision that sees beyond the present, embracing both the spiritual needs of the flock and the challenges of the times. Let us pray that today’s election will bring forth a shepherd who will honor the legacy of the Diocese of Nairobi and guide us into a season of growth, unity, and renewed commitment to God’s mission.
Personal Prayer:
Lord Almighty, You are the ultimate Shepherd of our souls. Thank You for raising leaders after Your own heart throughout the history of the Diocese of Nairobi. Today, as we gather to elect a new bishop, we lay this process at Your feet. Guide every decision with Your wisdom. Anoint the one You have chosen to serve as a humble shepherd, equipped with knowledge and understanding to lead Your people faithfully. May this election glorify Your name and advance Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Benediction:
May the God who appoints leaders according to His perfect plan guide today’s election with His wisdom. May the new shepherd rise with a heart tuned to heaven, hands ready to serve, and feet eager to walk in God's path. May the Diocese of Nairobi move forward into a season of divine favor and flourishing. In Jesus' name, Amen.
