*Manifesting the Father’s Name*
John 17:6
> “I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.” — John 17:6 (KJV)
*Introduction*
John 17 is often called the prayer of Jesus, or the High Priestly Prayer. In this chapter, Jesus is praying shortly before His arrest and crucifixion. He prays for Himself, for His disciples, and for all believers. In verse 6, Jesus makes a powerful statement: He says, “I have manifested thy name.”
Jesus came not only to perform miracles or teach parables, but to reveal the Father to humanity. Through His life, words, love, holiness, and sacrifice, He showed the true nature and character of God.
Today we learn three important truths from this verse.
*1. Jesus Revealed the Father*
Jesus said, “I have manifested thy name.”
In the Bible, a name represents character, identity, and nature. Jesus revealed who God truly is.
Before Christ came, many people viewed God only through laws, judgment, and rituals. But Jesus revealed God as:
A loving Father
A merciful Savior
A faithful Shepherd
A compassionate Redeemer
When people saw Jesus, they saw the Father.
John 14:9
> “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.”
Jesus manifested:
God’s love to sinners
God’s power over darkness
God’s mercy to the broken
God’s holiness without condemnation
The world should also see God through us. As believers, our lives should reveal Christ in:
Our speech
Our conduct
Our love
Our forgiveness
Our integrity
Christianity is not only about attending church; it is about manifesting God’s character daily.
*2. Believers Are Chosen by God*
Jesus said:
> “...the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me…”
The disciples belonged to God before they followed Jesus. This reminds us that salvation is initiated by God Himself.
We are not saved by accident. God calls people out of the world into His kingdom.
1 Peter 2:9
> “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation…”
The world may reject believers, but heaven recognizes them as God’s own possession.
*Lessons*
God knows His people.
God calls His people.
God entrusts His people to Christ.
God preserves His people.
This should give every believer confidence and assurance.
*3. True Believers Keep God’s Word*
Jesus concluded by saying:
> “...and they have kept thy word.”
The disciples were not perfect, but they received and obeyed the Word of God.
A true follower of Christ is identified not merely by confession but by obedience.
James 1:22
> “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only…”
*Keeping God’s Word means:*
Living according to Scripture
Trusting God’s promises
Walking in holiness
Remaining faithful even during trials
The proof of spiritual maturity is obedience.
*Ask Yourself*
Am I keeping God’s Word?
Does my life reveal Christ?
Can people see God through me?
*Conclusion*
John 17:6 reveals the mission of Jesus:
1. To reveal the Father
2. To call people out of the world
3. To produce obedient disciples
Jesus fulfilled His assignment faithfully. The question for us today is: Are we fulfilling ours?
The world is searching for truth, hope, and love. God desires to manifest Himself through His children. May our lives become living testimonies of Christ Jesus our Lord.
*Closing Challenge*
Reveal God through your lifestyle.
Stay separate from worldly compromise.
Keep the Word of God faithfully.
Live as one who belongs to Christ.
*Closing Prayer*
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to reveal Your heart to us. Help us to live lives that manifest Your love, holiness, and truth. Teach us to obey Your Word faithfully and remain steadfast in our walk with You. Let our lives shine so that others may see Christ through us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
