THE TEARS OF ORPHANS.
Please read it.
My name is okurut kokas from a muria district and this is my story of tears. After losing our mother who had been the only source of income in the home, life became a shadow of suffering and pain. it was characterised with endless tears as my mother left me with my young brother. at that time, I was just eleven years of age and my brother was just making five years. I had to put him on my back whenever I moved around looking for any kind of dirty jobs for our survival. at times I could work in people's gardens and when time comes for me to ask for my salary, I ended up being chased. So, we slept hungry most of the times. my brother could cry a lot but when time went on, he came to understand that the only parent he had was me and he learnt to endure. To make things more worse on my side, is when the hoe chopped my leg when I was buzzy hustling to make money in people's gardens. this caused me a lot of pain and torture as I could not do anything for our family. I became bedridden and our clothes became too dirty as there was no soap, food was no more and only what we had in our faces was bloody tears. when my wound grew bigger, my young brother had to leave me at home and he goes to the main road with a basin, borrowing money for my health and our upkeep while on dirty clothes and tears. people gave him a lot of clothes and others gave him money and other foodstuffs. he could come back home and tries to bathe me, Cook food for me and he could cry all the time. all this happened when he was just five years. but I could get my handkerchief and wipe away his tears and encourage him that life would be better one day. After one week had past, my young brother again went back to the roadside begging for help from people and this time, he was too blessed in that he got the representative from UNICEF Who was looking for orphans and vulnerable children. he narrated to them about our conditions and this guys came to our home getting that we were sleeping under a mango tree. this people couldn't control their tears after seeing our conditions. they rushed me to mbale hospital for medication which made me better. after I became better, we were taken to Kampala where they took us to school. our life moments became lively and we studied well with other children. as days kept on counting and nights kept on multiplying, we studied up to the university level. UNICEF continued paying for our tuition and catered for everything we needed. my young brother went for medicine in makerere school of medicine whereas I did Social work and social administration. today as we talk, am working with UNICEF Uganda and we are dealing with many orphans and vulnerable children. my brother works as a doctor. life has changed beyond our expectations. we thought that we would end in rags and in people's gardens. we thought that we would forever sleep under mango trees for years. we thought that we would forever beg for money and food for the rest of our lives but God has pardoned us.
brothers and sisters, there is no permanent life condition in this world. today you are toiling in deep tears and on rags, but tomorrow the Lord God will elevate you to the level full of justice, peace, love and joy. So, today I pray that may God wipe away your tears. may he bathe you with his success, his victory, his blessings and his power today tomorrow and forever more.
