I briefly perused the morning’s headlines on my newsfeed and shook my head in dismay. I guess by now, I shouldn’t be surprised at what I see, but I still am. I wonder how can all these things happen? Why? What in the world is going on Lord? I bowed my head and waited for words to formulate themselves into a prayer….
“Speak my peace into situation.”
Peace? I begin looking up all the references of peace in the bible. Peace is mentioned many times in various ways. I was especially interested in reading about the situations where the Lord proclaimed peace or spoke peace into a situation. I found several of those as well! The most famous one being, “Peace! Be still!” The words Jesus spoke to the wind and the waves during a sudden storm. He could have just said, “Be still” He’s God, I’m sure they would have obeyed but He prefaced His imperative with a declaration, “Peace!” What I see here is that “Peace” precedes the command “Be still” and creates an opportunity for the command to come to pass.
How often have you been in the middle of a troubling situation and was challenged to even know what to pray? Speak the peace of God to the situation first. The Lord will handle the rest.
“Lord I speak your peace that passes all understanding into this situation and ask that your will be done. Show me what to pray and I thank you in advance for doing what only you can do. I rest in your peace and trust I will be lead according to your will. In Jesus name. Amen!
Now leave it alone!
To be concerned about something or someone doesn’t mean you should run around like that crazy chicken! Expect that people may say, “You sure seem calm about this? Aren’t you worried?” Use those comments as an open door to share why you have peace. It can be as simple as saying,
“I prayed and I believe the Lord is working it out.”
Some may give you a look that says, “If you say so...” Others may want to press in and ask questions, “Well, how can you be sure the Lord will answer?” You can now share a story of when God has come through for you before but even greater than that, you can explain, “I have a peace! Can I pray with you for peace too?”
The PEACE of God which passes all understanding is our response to the daily news, startling headlines and other chaotic happenings in our world. Jesus has promised us something far greater than what the world can provide… PEACE! (Yes, right in the middle of EVERYTHING that’s going on!) Take advantage of that promise TODAY!
Blessings!
