Profile of Kyabje 13th Daknak Dorje Chang (Losang Yeshe Thinley Gyeltsen), Guru of Gadenpa Buddhism Center
The monastic name of Kyabje 13th Daknak Dorje Chang is Losang Yeshe Thinley Gyeltsen (which means a pillar of goodness, wisdom and precious undertaking). Born in 1961 as the nirmanakaya of Buddha Amitaba, Daknak Dorje Chang is the great living Buddha at Zetho Monastery of Xikang and Sera Gre
at Vehicle Monastery. Having learned from many virtuous gurus from the Shamanist Drepung Monastery and Sera Great Vehicle Monastery, he deeply follows the precepts and teachings, and completely practices all methods, important instructions, satras and principles. In 1996, he received the Geshe Larampa (the highest degree in Tibetan Exotoric Buddhism) from three major monasteries (Gaden Monastery, Sera Monastery and Drepung Monastery), and entered the Gyumey Monastery to learn and practice Esoteric Buddhism that same year. In recent years, Daknak Dorje Chang has been propagating Buddhism in India, Nepal, Tibet, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Mongolia, etc. In 1999, he came to Taiwan and the following year, he established the Gadenpa Buddhism Center. Since then, he has devoted himself to teaching Buddhism in Taiwan. Aside from going on regular retreats, he is a remarkable Buddhist and true guru who practices both Exotoric and Esoteric dharmas. He strictly follows the moral teachings of Buddhism in his daily life and improves himself while showing compassion like the Mahasiddhas who are known for their great wisdom. He often encourages disciples to practice Bodhichitta which guides Buddhists to achieve liberation from samsara. If Esoteric Buddhists practice Ta**ra methods with Bodhichitta, they can gain merits and enlightenment. Therefore, it is necessary to practice Esoteric Buddhism with the Supra-mundane-mind, Metta and Karuna so as to achieve Bodhichitta. A person who follows the virtuous gurus and yidams, and truly applies their teachings can easily attain Buddhahood. In a period of moral decay and materialism, practicing Dharma is quite difficult, let alone finding true Buddhists. Despite his fame and personal interests, Daknak Dorje Chang strictly applies Buddhist practices in his daily life. All offerings are used to build Buddhist temples and help monks and poor people. He is often invited to teach Buddhism all over the world but he never showed any sign of fatigue in spite of exhausting travels and difficulties. He devotes himself to Buddhism and saves people tirelessly. He has achieved the level of Selflessness. He is a wise teacher who can help people in attaining Tathagata and spreading the honorable dharmas of Sakyamuni Buddha. We can meet such a worthy guru because we have accumulated wisdom and fortune for several generations. We should value the guru and his important teachings. It is only by protecting and supporting the guru, as well as inheriting his instructions can we receive help from ancestors and support from Dakinis of different generations, and further achieve supreme Buddhahood. At present, Daknak Dorje Chang continues to teach Buddhism in Taiwan because he cannot bear to see people fall into evil paths and hopes to free living beings such as mothers from their suffering as soon as possible.
