Blessed 24th Sunday of the Year
***
“Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him” (Psalm 103:13). We thank God, our heavenly Father Who loves us. We praise Him likewise that He made us His children when we placed our faith in our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ, according to John 1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” Indeed, He is our wonderful Father Who builds our lives, provides our needs, and encourages us to do what is right that gives Him delight.
With our sincere gratitude for our Father in heaven is also our devoted worship toward Him Who is the source of our faith. Hebrews 11:6 states that “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Let us continually ask Him to increase our faith. That was also the prayer of the apostles in Luke 17:5, that declares, “And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.” We should trust God’s Word, the source of our faith. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Moreover, we must take a step of faith, obeying the Lord without hesitation, believing that the success of faith is powered by God Who is always victorious. Such was exemplified by Abraham who is called “the father of faith because he trusted God's promises before seeing fulfillment” as expressed by Romans 4:20, “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.”
As we serve the Lord God our Father by His grace and through His power, we abide in His perfect will where His influence prevails and pervades. Proverbs 13:20 declares, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” By the leadership of the Holy Spirit, let us persevere to be influenced by His godliness, holiness and righteousness, while we seek to be around godly influence, and strive to become godly influences to others. It is because godly influence leads us to Scriptural wisdom, directs us to the ways of the Lord, strengthens our faith, and leaves a lasting legacy. We must pray that we can become the godly influencers the Lord wants us to be by being faithful believers who invest in others, building lives, and ministering with compassion in our commitment to follow the steps of our Saviour. Altogether as members of Christ’s church, we put into practice the truth of Hebrews 10:24, “…Let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.”
