想吃什麼,自己種;

The Mission House’s Vegetable Market
Indigenous peoples in Taitung sometimes describe the Pacific Ocean as the “refrigerator” in their backyard—when they want something to eat, they simply head out to sea and catch it.
The Bethlehem Mission House has something similar. Only here, instead of a refrigerator, it is Br. Augustin’s own little “vegetable market.”
Japanese sweet potato leaves, bird’s-eye chilies, okra, Thai basil, eggplants, sweet peppers—the list goes on. These are not grown merely for decoration, but planted by Br. Augustin himself for the daily table.
Whenever something is needed in the kitchen, one only has to walk a few steps into the garden and pick it.
Perhaps this is also one of the reasons Br. Augustin enjoys gardening so much: practicality.
Grow what you want to eat;
pick only what you need.
Few ways of life are fresher—or more economical—than bringing food straight from the garden to the table.
