A few days ago, our Director, Juanita received a message from the adoptive parents in the U.S. They adopted a baby boy named Jack 19 years ago through the Taiwan Home Of God's Love adoption agency for a baby born at Ray of Hope. The adoptive mother said Jack had never expressed interest in knowing about his birth parents. But, recently, he told her that he would like to learn more about them.
Our social worker at Ray Of Hope was able to locate the birth mother’s information. However, the birth mother had since changed her name and phone number, so we had no way of contacting her. While it seemed nearly impossible to find her, we kept praying.
The adoptive mother sent us four photos of letters and said, “I don’t know if this will help, but these are the letters the birth mother wrote to Jack (at the time of adoption).” Because the letters were in Chinese, the adoptive family couldn't read them. She said, “Maybe there’s some useful information in them.”
Those words were filled with a mother’s deep love and longing for her child. In one of the photos, a staff member noticed an email address. She thought, “Many people don’t check their old emails, and after nearly 20 years, that email account has probably been changed.” While it felt unlikely, she still decided to give it a try and sent an email and prayed that God would open a way for us to reconnect with the birth parents. To our amazement, within half a day the birth mother called Ray Of Hope in response!
Praise the Lord!! It’s truly incredible to be able to reconnect after 19 years. Because the truth is, not every search for birth parents ends this smoothly.
The adoptive mom wrote: Jack is an amazing young man, everyone absolutely loves him. He is thriving at college and getting straight A’s. The birth mom will be very proud of him. He has been home with us all summer and he leaves again in two weeks (for school). I will miss him so much. We adopted Emmy and Maggie after Jack, who also came through Ray of Hope. Jack is very close with his sisters. Emmy and Maggie are biological sisters.”
