　高雄朝后宮乃祀奉天上聖母媽祖，背靠萬壽山，面向高雄港，本宮北港媽(朝和安媽)與(佳一媽)乃分靈自北港朝天宮祖廟恭迎來高雄， 莊儀團將軍會亦是全國第一個由朝天宮莊儀團分靈的分會，神童團傳自閭山堂神童團，德義堂太祖會亦傳自北港，再加上今年(90年)於北港拜師傳授薪火的報馬仔，再加上威震南台灣的中壇元帥太子會、虎爺會、哨角會震威團，廟中各會組織完備，但民國57年立宮到現在仍未建立大廟。可以說，高雄朝后宮是一間大廟尚未完成的「大廟」，在高雄早享有盛名。

高雄朝后宮每年均會以徒步方式前往北港朝天宮徒步進香謁祖，是台灣三大長程徒步進香隊伍之一(另外兩個是白沙屯拱天宮和大甲鎮瀾宮)，全程超過300公里，至民國106年已經邁入第15年。
