Bishop's Centenary College - St. Cecilia's Visit Summary 🏫
The Meet the Bishop Tour to secondary schools continued with a visit to Bishop’s Centenary College on Wednesday 26 November. As a project of the Anglican Youth & Young Adult Ministries, Bishop Claude Berkley has been visiting secondary schools in the Diocese, strengthening community, connecting and interacting with administrators, staff and students in our Anglican Secondary Schools. We are grateful to Mrs Loretta Davis, Principal, and her team for their kind hospitality to us on Wednesday. We also commend them for their faithfulness and hard work in building an increasingly strong team at Bishop’s Centenary College! 🙏
🔑 Key Takeaways from the Visit:
Reflecting on History & Mission: The Bishop reminded us that Bishop’s Centenary College was established to mark the 100th anniversary of the Diocese of Trinidad and Tobago (1872). Our core mission remains bringing all human beings into unity with God and with each other through education and formation.
- Commendation on Stewardship: Despite resource challenges, the Bishop highly commended the Board, Principal, Administration, Staff, and Students for their faithful stewardship and for "doing miracles" to get the job done.
- The Value of Education: Students were urged to reflect on their journey, make necessary adjustments, and remain open to revelation to truly understand the value of their education, which takes them "from the known to the unknown."
- Teachers as Nation Builders: The Bishop stressed that the work done by teachers is a sacred trust and vital to building the nation. It is a crucial contribution to good order and moulding young minds, embodying the mission of the Church.
- Prefectship & Leadership: Prefects were acknowledged for their role, which serves as an invaluable training opportunity in leadership, managing different temperaments, and dealing with others with perseverance and astuteness.
We met with all levels of staff and students and even had time for a school tour.
The Bishop ended the day by thanking all staff for their contribution to the Church's mission and encouraging them to persevere and remain faithful, even when facing challenges from the wider community.
It was a truly inspiring day! Let us continue to give our best and build on the legacy of our founders.
