INSTRUTIONS TO FOLLOW ON RETURNING HOME AFTER SHAVING CERMONY IS COMPLETED AT THE BANKS OF THE WATER

On your arrival at home before entering the house every one should wash their hands and then touch the following items: fire, iron, and hardi and doob grass. All should drink some sweetened water or lime-juice as per tradition. The main person (yajmaan) who performed the rituals will now take the tulsie water with black-till which was given to him by the pundit and pour it into a lotar and sprinkle it on the entire house. Thereafter five (5) shares of food should be taken outside where the Kush grass was previously planted for the past ten days and tillanjali was offered. At this point you should pray in your own words to God and offer the food in memory of your near and dear departed one. Ask God to accept the food and shower his blessing upon the departed one and then offer the food respectfully as follows:
1) By the Kush grass for the departed soul.
2) On the earth for ants and insects.
3) On a little height or a tree for bees and birds
4) For a cow or in running water for fishes.
5) For a dog

The Kush grass should now be unknotted and then uprooted. Then all who participated in the distribution of the food will now wash their hands, rinse their mouth and sprinkle water over their head. They will all now sit inside facing on a southerly direction to eat food. No one should eat any food before the main person (yajmaan) has eaten first and the food should be distributed from the main person (yajmaan) first and then to others. Everyone from the fist group who sits to eat should take out a small portion of their food and put it into a separate unused leaf. The yajmaan then tastes his food five times drinks some water and everyone will begin eating now. At this point in time if there is accommodation elsewhere for the rest of the people food may be distributed to them.

After the first group has finished eating, the yajmaan will get up, wash his hands and take-up the leaves that was used by the first group of people keeping his on top. These used leaves are then discarded. The yajmaan then takes an empty bucket and a mug of water and passes it around pouring water to wash their hands. A clean towel should be used to fan the people (from the first group) after they have finished eating.

Just before sunset, the little portion of food (which was taken out separately from the first batch of people before they eat) should be sent together with the kalsa, parai and deyaa (which was lighting in the house for the past ten days) and thrown into a river or the sea. A new deyaa should now be lighted from today until the final day of the Bhandhara
