The cruel hand of death struck the Morvant SDA Church family again, a mere 3 days after Avian's passing.

Oh how we look forward to the second coming when death itself will die forever and there will be no more sickness, pain, dying or sorrow.

Although Debra fellowshipped with the Cocoyea SDA church family, her formative years were spent at Morvant SDA until her marriage to Tony Gonzalez in her young adult years.

We offer condolences to and prayers for her five children who also lost their father under two years ago.

Let us hold fast to his promises and hold fast till he comes. Resurrection morn is promised!

I Thessalonians 4:13-18

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

A longstanding member and stalwart at Morvant Seventh-day Adventist Church has passed.

The loss of Avian Joseph has left a gaping hole in the membership at Morvant Seventh-day Adventist Church. Avian joined the membership in 1979. Her impact on the church was immediate. Her qualifications and demeanour, many talents and spiritual gifts allowed her to edify the church and minister in several areas. Over her 45 years of membership, she served the church as Communications Secretary, Education Director, Religious Liberty Leader, Sabbath School Superintendent and Sabbath School Teacher. Her service was stamped with passion, spirit and excellence. She also ministered to the needs of congregants. The first publication of Morvant SDA Church, the newsletter, MorViews, was conceptualised, introduced, managed and edited by Avian Joseph. Her Sabbath School classes were sites of laughter, fellowship and activity.
Avian’s passing has left a void in Morvant SDA . We trust God where we cannot trace him. We cling to the promise of resurrection morn when "those that are in Christ will rise first (1 Thes 4:16).
Even so, come Lord Jesus.

The celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday February 4, 2026 at Morvant Seventh-day Adventist Church at 10am.

Morvant SDA church mourns the loss of a dedicated leader and member.

After their marriage, Debra and Kenneth Phillip (deceased) moved to Morvant in 1989. They integrated into the Morvant SDA church between 1989-1992. Debra, was a dynamic and passionate member who served in the Sabbath School Department as a Teacher and Superintendant. She also served as the head of the Education and Women's Ministries Departments. Even in her illness she continued serving faithfully in the Sabbath School and Education Departments.

Prior to attending Morvant SDA, Debra ran a preschool out of Carenage SDA and was an active board member of the Wesport SDA Primary School and President of the Home and School Association (HASA) for many years.

We look foward in anticipation to resurrection morning when we will see Debra again.

Death of a pioneer: Gwendolyn Ross

Gwendolyn Brown and her mother were one of the pioneering families that left Laventille SDA to fellowship at Morvant SDA in 1959. Gwennie, as she was fondly called, carved her name in music at Morvant. Gwennie and music were almost synonyms. She sang solos, duets and in trios and quarterts. She conducted choirs and guided groups. She served as music director, chorister and choir leader. She had a wide vocal range and a pitch perfect tone.
We look forward to the day when we will once more hear her voice singing redemption songs in the new Jerusalem.

Death of a Pioneer - Dennis Daily

Bro Dennis Daily was received into Fellowship at the Morvant SDA Church on April 3, 1971 after transferring his membership from the Zion Hill SDA Church in Tobago. During the 1970s he served as Elder and passionate Lay Evangelist at Morvant SDA.

His wife Linda Daily née Henry, also actively served at Morvant SDA during the 1970s in Children's Division, Sabbath School, Treasury, Auditing, Clerk and other departments of the church.

He fell asleep in Jesus on March 30, 2025. We look forward in anticipation to the day when the dead in Christ shall rise first. Sincere condolences to his wife Linda Daily and other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service is scheduled for Thursday 10 April at 10:00 am at Maranatha SDA Church

Morvant SDA Church mourns the sudden loss of Jenny Craigg a former member of the church. Jenny was an active member of the Morvant SDA master guide club, and the Morvant drama guild before migrating to the UK

We cling to the promise of the resurrection.
