St. John Presbyterian Church
Elevation Service & Pentecost Sunday

Today the title of Honorary Elder was conferred to Mr Roopnarine Sankar, a longstanding Elder and servant of the Lord at the St John Presbyterian Church. Mr. Sankar continues to praise God with his powerful voice at 83 years of age.

We extend our gratitude to Rev Dr Daniel Teelucksingh who highlighted the roles and expectations placed on Elders in God’s service. He noted that the Holy Spirit empowers church Elders for spiritual oversight, selects leaders, instills moral character, grants wisdom for discernment, and guides the direction of the church. This divine partnership is essential for effectively shepherding the congregation.

The congregation welcomed the Vice Chairperson Presiding Elder Dr Dianne Phillip Ramjattan and Secretary Mr. Daniel Hardan of the Northern Presbytery. Their attendance and participation solidifies the relationship that exists between the Pastoral Region & Northern Presbytery.

God bless all the Session members in attendance, as their unwavering support showcases the regional unity that exists within the Pastoral Region.

Special Mention & Gratitude extended 🙏

PENTECOST INFORMATION

In a world that is rife with confusion, hatred and sin, the Holy Spirit can fill us with unshakable peace and hope. He gives discernment and direction that helps us live out our faith as children of God. The Spirit enlightens our minds, opens our hearts to the truth, and gives us the grace to choose goodness. He dwells in the community of the Church, giving us brotherly and sisterly love for one another and teaching us to become more like Jesus in the way we serve.

The Holy Spirit is present in the Church and with God’s people, and the day of Pentecost honors the invaluable gift we have received in him. It also honors the very birthday of our beloved Church, the day that the Gospel began to go forth and draw many hearts to salvation.

INVITATION

Ascension Sunday Service
Sunday 17th May 2026
Sunday School & Service Time- 8:30am

Jesus ascends triumphantly into heaven. Ascension Sunday, commemorate Jesus’ ascension into heaven 40 days after his resurrection.

Jesus goes to prepare a place for us and as the Scriptures reminds us where he is, we also will be.

Ascension marks the exaltation of Christ and the completion of his earthly ministry. Jesus ascends not to abandon us, but to intercede for us at the right hand of God, and to make way for the promised Holy Spirit—the advocate- (John 14:16, 26; 15:26) on Pentecost.

"And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven- Luke 24:50-51

"As they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight- Acts 1:9

"So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God- Mark 16:9

After he rose from the dead on Easter Sunday, and just before he ascends into heaven, Jesus instructs his disciples to wait in Jerusalem (Luke 24:44-52; Acts 1:4-9). Ten days later, on the fiftieth day after Easter, the Holy Ghost descends on the feast of Pentecost, fulfilling Jesus’ promise.
