✞✞✞On this day we commemorate the departure of the righteous Archbishop, Pope Michael l of Alexandria✞✞✞

✞✞✞In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen!✞✞✞

✞✞✞Abba Michael the 46th Archbishop of Alexandria✞✞✞
=>Abba Michael was Egyptian in lineage and lived in the Monastery of Scetes for many years, from an early age, in spiritual struggles after choosing the monastic life. And in those days, in Egypt, the Archbishop (Theodorus) of Alexandria departed, and the fathers (bishops of Lower Egypt and the priests of Alexandria) inquired Abba Michael with, “Let us appoint you”, after they had heard a voice that came [from heaven] which said, “Appoint Abba Michael”. Nevertheless, he said, “No”. However, they tied him up and appointed him.

✞Thereafter, Abba Michael received severe afflictions while he was appointed a shepherd (bishop). The Caliph (‘Caliph’ say the Ethiopian fathers ‘has the meaning of wicked – ‘Kifu’‘) of the era used to detain and beat the father before the people.

✞Many were killed by the brutality of the tortures while more than 20,000 renounced their faith.

✞And the Ethiopian Emperor of the period, in spiritual zeal, went to Egypt with 100,000 cavalrymen, 100,000 mule-riders and 100,000 camel-riders, and distressed the Caliph and saved the Egyptian Christians from further torments.

✞And once Abba Michael was released from prison, he labored much to return to faith the lapsed. And he was successful. The righteous Archbishop departed on this day after years of strife.

✞✞✞May God not remove from us the Saint’s blessing.

MEGABIT 16
(March 25)
IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND THE SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT,
ONE GOD. AMEN.

On this day died the holy and honorable father Abba Michael, the forty-sixth Archbishop
of the city of Alexandria. This father was a monk in the church of Saint Abba Macarius in
the desert of Scete, and he was a strenuous and devoted ascetic. When the holy father
Abba Theodore, the archbishop who had been appointed before him, died, the fathers who
were bishops sat for several days in a body in Mesr (Cairo), debating and trying to discover
who was the most suitable man for the office of archbishop. And a certain righteous man,
on whom was the grace of prophecy, told them, saying, “I was in the church of Saint Abba
Macarius praying, when I heard a voice from heaven which said, Michael is worthy, and he
is the man who is suitable for the office.” And the bishops discussed together the virtues
and righteousness of Michael, and they agreed concerning him, and they obtained from the
governor of Mesr (Cairo) an order in writing to bring him from his monastery. And they
seized him, and bound him, and took him and made him archbishop on the seventeenth day
of the month of Meskerem in the sixty-fourth year of the [Era of] Diocletian, (now that day
was a festival of the Cross in the monastery of Abba Macarius) in the days of Al-Walid,
the son of Hasimo (i.e. the ‘Umayyad Khalifah Al-Walid II, the son of Hisham, A.D. 724 -
744), and in the days of Warwan Al-Gadin. And the men of the city of Alexandria
remained for many years without rain, that is to say there was no heavy rain, only
showers. And on the day whereon this father was appointed archbishop, there was much
rain, and the second and the third rains were very heavy. In the days of this father very
great tribulation fell upon the Christian folk; and very many of the believers fled from the
land of Egypt. And the number of men who denied Christ was twenty-four thousand. And because of these things this father archbishop sorrowed with very great sorrow, until at
length God did away the causes of this thing, which were due to Him. In the days of this
father, an archbishop was appointed over the Malakawiyan (Malachite), whose name was
Cosmas, and this father debated with him concerning the unity of the Nature of our Lord
Christ. And Cosmas believed that it was even as this father said, and he wrote with his
own hand, saying, “Our Lord Christ hath His Unity, one Nature in His Incarnation, even as
Cyril the archbishop saith.” And his bishops wrote the same thing with their own hands,
saying, “It is not right to say concerning our Lord Christ and to assign to Him after His
Unity two distinct Natures and two distinct Persons, like two men.” And they agreed about
this Faith, and they assigned to him one holy, general and Apostolic Church. And Cosmas,
the Archbishop of the Malakawiyan (Malachite), was pleased to be Archbishop of the city
of Mesr (Cairo), and they all agreed about this counsel. But among them was one corrupt
person, a certain man who was a Malachite, and whose name was Anastasius, who
objected to this; he was an Alexandrine, and he wished them to make him archbishop, and
they appointed him. And when they would not agree, Constantinus, Bishop of Mesr
(Cairo), was pleased; now he was under the authority of Abba Michael. On this man there
fell great tribulation from the rule of the oppressors, and they punished him most severely.
They beat him with many strips, and they bound him with fetters of iron, and they shut him
up in prison for many days; and they brought him before the judges of the government so
that they might cut off his head. And God saved him in order to protect the flock of the
people. And there was great torturing (or, persecution) in the days of the reign of Marwan
(Marwan II, A.D. 744), [and] in the days of the governorship of Gabra Iyasus, the son of
Muse (Moses), the son of Nasir, who withdrew from Judaism to Islam. And he shut up the
archbishop in prison, and demanded money from him; then he showed him kindness and
brought him out, and then he banished him. And he departed into Upper Egypt to beg for
alms, and he brought back to the governor much money. And this holy man went into
Upper Egypt, where he worked very many miracles, and he turned many of those who had
denied our Lord Christ and brought them back into the Right Faith. When the King of
Ethiopia heard the history of this father, and how the Muslim governor had punished him,
and how they had shut him up in prison, he was filled with holy indignation, and he went
down into Egypt, and he came to Upper Egypt, and laid waste many cities and spoiled
them. When he went down to the land of Egypt there were with him ten thousand horses,
and one hundred thousand mules, and one hundred thousand camels. When the King of
Egypt knew that all this [invasion] had taken place for the sake of the archbishop, he
released him from prison, and heaped great honors upon him; and in like manner he heaped
exceedingly great honors upon the Christian people. Then the King of Egypt entreated this
father to write a letter to the King of Ethiopia, and order him to return to his own country.
And this father sent a letter to the King of Ethiopia wherein he invoked blessings upon
him, and upon his governors and generals, and all his army, and he said unto him, “Behold
God hath delivered us from the bonds of captivity through thee. And now return to thy
country in safety and peace, and God shall reward thee in the kingdom of heaven for the
toil which thou hast undertaken for me.” When the King of Ethiopia had read the letter
sent to him by this father Archbishop Abba Michael, he rose up quickly and returned to his
country in peace. When the holy father had finished his good strife he departed to the God
Whom he loved.
Glory be to God Who is glorified in His Saints. Amen.

KIDANE MEHERET - The Assumption Of our Lady St. Mary

The Seven Salutations to the Covenant of Mercy

Salutation to thee O Covenant of of Mercy, my hope, the justifier of the sinner, the seeker after the one sheep of the ninety and nine which hath become cast away.

Salutation to thee O Covenant of Mercy, thou pillar set up by God, be thou a sign of salvation unto sinners, O thou whose love strengtheneth.

Salutation to thee, O Covenant of Mercy, thou gold that embraceth all riches, the storehouse of the poor and needy, and the wealth of Him that is in Heaven.

Salutation to thee O Covenant of Mercy, who weighest the heavens in a balance; my trust is in thee, grant thou unto me both the strife and the conquest thereof.

Salutation to thee O Covenant of Mercy, earnest of the kingdom of heaven;whosoever loveth thee shall live in hope until the resurrection of all mankind shall take place.

Salutation to thee, O Covenant of Mercy, If I cannot justify myself by strivings and good works, let me rely upon thee, O Virgin Covenant, to save my soul from perdition.

Salutation to thee. Upon him that shall build a temple in the name of thy Covenant, and upon those of us who pray in thy name, O Maryam, bestow a portion of thy blessing, and make supplication unto thy Good Son on our behalf.

(WUDASSE MARIAM) THE PRAISE OF OUR LADY, THE VIRGIN MARY, THE BEARER OF GOD, WHICH IS TO BE READ ON THE FOURTH DAY, WEDNESDAY (REBU)

All the Hosts of Heaven say, Blessed are Thou, O Thou second heaven upon the earth, Door of the sunrise (Or the East), Mary the Virgin, Thou pure Bride chamber of the Holy Bridegroom. The Father looked down from heaven, and found none like unto Thee; He sent His Only Son, and He became incarnate of Thee. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

All generations shall ascribe blessings unto Thee, Thou who alone are Our Lady, the Bearer of God. Great and wonderful things have the Prophets prophesied concerning Thee, O City of God, for Thou are the abode of all those who rejoice. All the kings of the earth walk in Thy light and all the nations in Thy splendor. O Mary, all generations shall ascribe blessings unto Thee, and shall magnify Him. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Thou are in very truth the Cloud, and Thou have shown us the water of the rain, the sign of the Only Begotten. The Father established Thee, the Holy Spirit took up His abode on Thee, and the power of the Most High overshadowed Thee, O Mary, and verily Thou did bring forth the Word, the Son of God, who endures forever. He came and has delivered us from sin. Great was the honor that was bestowed upon Thee, O Gabriel, the Angel of Annunciation with the joyful face. Thou did proclaim unto us the birth of the Lord, Who has come to us, and Thou did announce Him to Mary, the spotless Virgin, and did say unto Her, “Rejoice Thou, O Thou who are full of grace, God is with Thee.” Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Thou did find grace, the Holy Spirit dwelt upon Thee, and the power of the Most High overshadowed Thee, O Mary. Verily Thou did bring forth the Holy Savior for all the world. He came and He hath delivered us. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Our tongue this day praises the work of the Virgin. We praise Mary, the God Bearer, because our Lord and Redeemer Jesus Christ was born of Her in the city of David. Come, O all ye nations, and let us ascribe blessing unto Mary, for She is at once Mother and Virgin. Rejoice, O Pure Virgin, in whom there is no blemish, to whom came the Word of the Father, Who was incarnate of Her. Rejoice, O Vessel unblemished, perfect and spotless woman. Rejoice Thou, O Garden endowed with reason, thou Abode of Christ, Who became the second Adam because of the first Adam, the man. Rejoice Thou, O woman who bore the Only Begotten, Who, was not separated from the Bosom of His Father, Rejoice, O Thou pure Bride-Chamber who is adorned with all the beauty of praise, He came and was incarnate of Thee. Rejoice, O Thorn-bush, who was not consumed by the Fire of the Godhead. Rejoice Thou, O Mother and Maid, Virgin, Thou Heaven of the Heavenly, who did carry in Thy body Him who is borne aloft by the Cherubim and Seraphim. And because of this we rejoice, and we sing with the Holy Angels with joy and gladness and we say, “Glory to God in the heavens, and peace upon earth, His good will to men.” And He is ever well pleased with Thee. For He unto whom belongs glory and praise. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

The glory of Mary is greater than that of all the saints, for She was worthy to receive the Word of the Father. Him who makes the Angels to be afraid, Him Whom the Watching Angels in Heaven praise, did Mary the Virgin carry in Her Womb. She is greater than the Cherubim and superior to the Seraphim, for She is an Ark (Or Tabernacle) of One of the Holy Trinity. She is Jerusalem, the City of the Prophets, and She is the habitation of the joy of all the Saints. On the people who sat in darkness and shadow of death has a great light risen. God who rests in His holiness became incarnate of a Virgin for our salvation. Come ye and look upon this marvelous thing, sing ye His song because of the mystery that has been revealed unto us. For He who was without flesh became a man, The Word mingled with Our nature, He who had no beginning assumed a beginning for Himself, and He who had no days reckoned to Himself days, and He who could not be known became revealed, and He who was invisible showed Himself; the Son of the Living God became a man indeed, Jesus Christ, yesterday, today, and forever, One Nature, Him do we worship and praise. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Ezekiel the Prophet testified concerning Her and said, “I see a sealed door in the East, sealed with a great and wonderful seal, and no one has gone in through except the God of the mighty ones. He went in and He came out.” Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

This door is the Virgin who brought Him forth, and She remained in Her virginity after She had brought Him forth. Blessed is the Fruit of Thy Womb, O God-Bearer, who came and delivered us out of the hand of the enemy who was merciless. Complete are thou and Blessed; Thou has found grace with the King of Glory, the God in truth. Majesty and Glory belong to Thee more than to all those who dwell upon the earth. The Word of the Father came and was incarnate of Thee, and walked about with men, for He is compassionate and a lover of men. He delivered our souls by His Holy coming. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

ALL GENERATIONS SHALL ASCRIBE BLESSINGS UNTO THEE, THOU WHO ALONE ARE OUR LADY, THE BEARER OF GOD.

My Lady Mary I Salute thee with the Salutation of the Archangel Gabriel.

Thou art virgin with Thy thought and body.

Mother of the Almighty God, Salutation is due to thee.

Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.

Hail Thou that are highly favored the Lord is with thee.

Pray for mercy to Thy Beloved son our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

To cleanse us from our sins and all unrighteousness. Amen.)

The Creed or Prayer of Faith

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and all things visible and invisible.

And, we believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of the Father, Who was with Him before the creation of the world; light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one essence with the Father, by Whom all things were made, and without Him was not anything in heaven or earth made;

Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, was made man and was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and from the Holy Virgin Mary; became man, was crucified for our sakes in the days of Pontius Pilate, suffered, died, was buried, and rose from the dead on the third day, as was written in the Holy Scriptures; ascended in glory into heaven, sat at the right hand of His Father and will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. There is no end of His reign.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the life-giving God Who proceedeth from the Father. We worship and glorify Him with the Father and the Son, Who spoke by the prophets.

And we believe in One, Holy, Universal, Apostolic Church.

And we believe in one Baptism for the remission of sins, and wait for the resurrection from the dead and the life to come, world without end. AMEN.

(WUDASSE MARIAM) The Praise of Our Lady, the Virgin Mary, the Bearer of God, which is to be read on the third day, Maksegno (Tuesday)

The Crown of our Glory, and the origin of our salvation and the foundation of our sanctification came into being in Mary the Virgin, who brought for us God the Word, who became incarnate for our salvation. And after He became man of certainty He was perfect God. And for this reason She gave birth to Him being a virgin. The power of Her bringing forth is a marvelous thing that cannot be described. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Of His own free will, and by the good pleasure of His Father and the Holy Spirit, He came forth and has delivered us. Great is the praise of Thy Virginity, O Mary, Thou perfect (or absolute) Virgin. Thou did receive grace, God was with Thee. You are the ladder which Jacob saw reaching from earth to heaven, with the angels of God ascending and descending upon it. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Thou are the Bush which Moses saw blazing with fire, and the wood thereof was not consumed. It was the Son of God Who dwelt in Thy womb, and the fire of His divinity did not consume Thy flesh. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Thou are that field wherein no seed was sown, and yet there went forth from Thee the Fruit of Life. Thou are that Treasure-house which Joseph bought, and he found therein a Pearl, a precious gem, that is to say, Our Redeemer Jesus Christ. Thou did carry it (Him) in Thy womb and did bring Him forth into the world. . Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Rejoice Thou, O God-bearer, Thou joy of the angels. Rejoice Thou, O Pure, who was the woman foretold by the prophets. Rejoice Thou for Thou did find favor, and God was with Thee. Rejoice Thou, for Thou have received the voice of the Angel (Gabriel), the joy of the entire world. Rejoice Thou, O Bearer of the Creator of the entire world. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Rejoice Thou because it is meet that Thou should be called, “Bearer of God.” Rejoice Thou, O Thou Woman who delivered Eve. Rejoice Thou, for Thou did suckle Him Who suckles all creation. Rejoice Thou, O Holy woman, the mother of all living beings. We lift our eyes to Thee with entreaty that Thou will pray on our behalf. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

O Virgin, O Saint, O Bearer of God, since Thou did bring forth the King, a marvelous mystery dwelt upon Thee for our salvation. We will hold our peace, for we are unable to search into the matter completely, as the Greatness thereof requires, and will describe that Doer of good things, through the exceedingly great wonder of the manifestation. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

He was the Living Word of the Father Who came down on Mount Sinai, and gave the Law to Moses while the top of the mountain was covered with mist, and with smoke, and with darkness, and with storm, and with terrifying blasts of trumpets. He admonished those who were standing there in fear. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

It was He Who came down to Thee, O rational Mountain, in the humility of the Lover of men. Without any change He became incarnate of Thee, and took a perfect body, endowed with reason and like unto ourselves, through the spirit of wisdom. God took up His abode in Her and became perfect man, so that He might deliver Adam, and forgive him his sin, and make him to dwell in heaven, and bring him back to his former state in His abundant compassion. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

It is Impossible for any to describe the greatness of the Virgin. For God chose Her, and He came and dwelt upon Her. He who dwelt in the Light, Whom none could approach, He was carried in Her womb nine months. He who is invisible, He Who is incomprehensible did Mary bring forth, being a virgin. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

This the stone which Daniel the Prophet saw, which was hewn from a high mountain, without hands, that is to say, the Word Who went forth from the Father. He came and became incarnate of the Virgin, without seed of man, and delivered us. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Thou are the pure twig and the right vessel of the True Faith of the Saints our fathers. O Thou pure God-Bearer, O Thou sealed Virgin, Thou did bring forth for us the Word of the Father, Jesus Christ. He came and He has delivered us. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Thou are the Mother of the glorious Light, O God-Bearer. Thou did carry the Word Who is invincible, and after Thou had brought Him forth Thou did continue to be a Virgin. With praise and blessing shall men magnify Thee! Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

What tongue is able to proclaim that which should be declared concerning Thee, O Thou Pure Virgin? Mother of the Light, the Word of the Father. Thou were the throne of the King whom the Cherubim carry. We ascribe blessings unto Thee, O Blessed woman, and we will remember Thy name from generation to generation. O Beautiful Dove, Mother of our lord Jesus Christ. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

Rejoice Thou, O Mary, Mother and Maid, for unto Him who is in Thy Bosom, the angels bring praises, and the cherubim bow down and worship Him in fear, and the Seraphim spread out their wings, and say concerning Him ceaselessly, “This is the King of Glory.” He came to forgive the sins of the world in the greatness of His compassion. Pray to Him for us, O Holy One!

OF HIS OWN FREE WILL, AND BY THE GOOD PLEASURE OF HIS FATHER AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, HE CAME FORTH AND REDEEMED US.
