Thai Villager Finds Peace in Jesus After Neighbor's Passing
Rina Renthlei, ministering in Isaan shares about how God is working in Isaan:
In June this year, members of the southern ACT churches in Isaan visited The Church in Khamsanya in Nanongthum village. They divided themselves into groups and went to do outreach in the neighboring villages.
In the Nakae village, they came across Mother Sangwan and shared with her about Jesus and the salvation story. She became very interested. The church members in Nanongthum continued to visit her to teach her about Jesus.
A few weeks ago, Mother Bun Mi, Mother Sangwan's neighbor who had just become a believer passed away.
Mother Sangwan wanted to become a believer too because, she said, “When Mother Bun Mi died, I could see that she had so much peace. I want to have peace like that too.”

(Thai culture will often refer to each other using terms of endearment such as Mother, Aunty, Gran, etc.)

April Foolsday in Thailand

I am writing this on April 1st (April Fools), a day famous for hijinx and general tomfoolery in the west. But in Thailand it is a serious day to reflect on King Rama V (Chulalongkorn) who on April 1, 1905 freed all of the slaves in Thailand, an institution that had been in place for centuries (Above is the 100 Baht note showing the king freeing the slaves). Next to King Rama IX (Bhumibol Adulyadej) who died recently after 70 years on the throne, King Rama V is the portrait most seen displayed in Thai houses. Chulalongkorn is the son of King Mongkut (Rama IV) who is known in the west as the young prince in the Hollywood musical “The King and I”. As a young missionary studying Thai, it was months before I realized that Thailand actually means “Free Land” (ie. it has not been under colonizing powers like the rest of its neighbors). Yet over time I saw that a great many of this ‘Free People’ were in fact ‘under slavery’ to social problems and entrapped in various religious systems and thus not truly free as Jesus promised: “If the Son shall set you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). Pray that 99% of the Thai people not yet knowing Jesus will get to know their true liberator: Jesus Christ.

The Story of Beet: Beet, a young girl of 15 years, had been disturbed by something since the last three years. They had gone to see medical doctors and local mediums many times, but her condition did not improve. Some of the neighbours believed that it was an evil spirit, who disturbed her. Taking our church members, we went to pray for her. When we reached their house, she was playing with house with an unseen friend. Her family told us that she did this all day and night, hardly getting any sleep because her unseen friend did not allow her to stop playing. She had amulets and strings on her neck and wrists for protection, given to her by monks. We asked her and her family if they would remove the strings from her, they agreed to it. After we prayed for her, we asked permission to go inside the house to pray for it and also for the people living in it.
We sang a couple of songs and prayed together. Beet got up and collected all the toys that she put on her play-table and removed them. She told us that she did not want to play anymore. From that night, she could go to sleep and she started talking to her family again. Our Church members regularly visit her and pray for her at their house. The family comes to the Church each Sunday now. Let continue to pray for Beet’s physical and spiritual healing, and for the salvation of their family.

Please join us in prayer for Thailand this week:
From Thursday, 23th- Sunday, 26th of June OMF Thailand will have their annual conference. Many are excited to have the conference in person again after not having one in 2020 and an online conference in 2021.
Please pray:
• for the Isaan team who was/is organising and running the conference
• for safety in travels as everyone gets to the conference resort in Saraburi province and back to their home provinces
• that all technical details will work out well (soundsystem, projectors working etc.)
• for Andy Smith, the main speaker on the theme: Vision 20/20: Developing a Biblical worldview
• for the conference to be spiritually refreshing and a good time of fellowship among OMF Thailand members and partners
• for the children and teenagers to connect well with each other (despite the fact that we have little outside help for the children’s programme ). Pray for friendships to be refreshed and deepened and that God speaks to their hearts as well
• pray for the older teenagers/young adults that are helping with the children’s programme – may it be a good experience for them
