Phra Somdej Ket Mongkhon

2nd Batch B.E. 2512 (1969)
created by Luang Pho Phaithun (Thun) of Wat Pho Nimit
These sacred amulets were consecrated on Saturday, the 5th (Sao Ha) in B.E. 2512. The sacred materials used were the same powders from the first batch of Phra Somdej Ket Mongkhon (B.E. 2485).
Sacred Materials Used in the Creation:
~ Sacred powder from broken ancient Buddha images unearthed in the Suphanburi province, especially from Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat.
~ Sacred pewter alloy (Chin Ngern) from old pagoda votive of:
Gru Chumnum Song, Suphanburi.
Gru Wat Ratchaburana, Ayutthaya.
~ Broken fragments of:
Phra Somdej Wat Rakang (Somdej Toh era).
Wat Sam Pluem votive Buddha (from the pagoda).
~ Alloy dust from:
Casting of Phra Kring Chaokun Sri Son, Wat Suthat.
Casting of the 25th Century Buddha (Satthawat B.E. 2500)
~ Soil collected from the Four Major Buddhist Holy Sites.
~ 108 kinds of sacred plants, buds, and herbal mixtures (Waan Roi Soon Bpet) and Mulberry paper (Saa paper) inscribed with 108 magical scriptures in the ancient tradition of Wat Suthat.
~ The Five Types of Sacred Powders (Phong Wised Ha Samut) according to the ancient texts of Somdej Phra Puttajarn Toh
~ Sacred powders prepared personally by Somdej Phutthachan Nuam (Wat Anong), who also collected powders from many great monks of that era, including Luang Pu Suk, Wat Makham Thao.
Somdej Phutthachan Nuam instructed Luang Pho Thun to take these powders and use them in creating Buddha images.
Luang Pho Thun being from Suphanburi also approached the great master Luang Pho Sodh of Wat Paknam saying:
“Since we are from the same hometown, may I request a consecrated Itthije inscription board to incorporate into my Buddha creation.”
In the end, Luang Pho Thun was able to gather a large amount of sacred materials. He began pressing the Buddha images in B.E. 2485 and continued until B.E. 2497 when he started distributing them.
The first batch of Phra Somdej Ket Mongkhon (so named because it was mixed with the hair relics of Somdet Phutthachan Nuam) became extremely popular among devotees. Later, in B.E. 2512, the remaining sacred powders were gathered again for a second consecration ceremony.
This 2nd batch included amulets in four molds:
1: Phra Somdej with Salika Yant (incised yant on reverse)
2. Phra Somdej Jaeo Ruea Chang (Boat-rowing monk mold)
3. Phra Luang Pho To mold
4. Triangular Suphanburi-style mold (in tribute to his Suphanburi heritage).
For this batch, several highly respected monks who were close to Luang Pho Thun performed solo consecrations, including:
1. Luang Pu Toh, Wat Pradoochimplee
2. Luang Pho Seng, Wat Kalaya
3. Luang Pho Sa, Wat Ratchanadda
4. Luang Pho Thin, Wat Palelai
