Most of us likely know someone who at one time professed faith in Christ, but now has turned away and denied him. Children, siblings, spouses, friends - many will fall away and it leads us to ask: How should we respond to those who abandoned the faith? How can we remain faithful to the gospel? How can we know that we will persevere to the end?

There’s a Thai idiom which says ปลาหมอตายเพราะปาก (or, “the fish dies because of its mouth”) - it’s an idiom that speaks to the importance of our words and how careless words are dangerous.

Similarly, Jesus speaks about the consequences of our words, specifically the words that we confess about who Jesus is. Sunday’s sermon from Matthew 12 serves as a warning to all that what you say about Jesus determine where you stand with God for eternity.

Tonight and tomorrow BCBC women will go on our annual women’s retreat to fellowship and learn more about “The God We Can Trust.”

Our guest speaker, Megan Collins, will lead the women in studying three passages:

Mark 9:14-29, “A Woman’s Trust”
Psalm 16, “A Woman’s Security”
Psalm 73, “A Woman’s Satisfaction”

Last night, our elders prayed that this weekend will help BCBC women grow in faith, hope, and love as well as deepen and expand relationships with one another.

What kind of counterfeit rest are you prone to? The truth is that we all have different activities that seem “restful” but in reality they offer a temporary and untrue rest for us.

In Matthew 12-1:21, we find that only Jesus offers the true rest that we need; rest from heavy-handed leaders, rest from hard-hearted indifference and rest that is the hope for all nations.
